Rankin Speece Trade

May 12, 2012 at 02:22AM View BBCode

Rankin Speece's trade to the Highlanders completes last year's CP deal, in which the Wilverines received Jeff Sweasy, Jake Gibbon, and a #2 pick in exchange for Tom Dugan and 5 CP's on Speece for the 2nd half of last season.

trading CP is allowable? How does that work?

Essentially, you add the CP swap in the narrative of the trade being made, as stated in the above Rankin Speece trade. Then the team that has "traded" the CP's puts the agreed upon number of CP's on the traded player for the agreed amount of time. You don't really trade the CP's; what you do is trade a player to another team and that team puts the CP's on the player.

At the end of the season, the player that received the CP's is traded back to their original team, with no other players involved in the deal.

Standard protocol is that any teams involved in a CP deal will announce the CP trade in the league messages, with both teams confirming the swap.

I hope that's a clear explanation. If not, send me a u2 message and I'll try to explain it better.

Thanks LTJaeger for your response. So much to learn here, sorry but still confused. I'm not sure I see the reason for this type of deal. I don't want to really bother anyone with trying to explain this. Is this type of deal explained in the manual? I suppose I should go read through it before I ask these questions.

OK, I am trying to figure this one out, so I appreciate all owners patience with the newbie.

I looked at Speece's player card and it shows that he was traded by the Highlanders to the Wilverines in June of last season. Now, he has found his way back to the Highlanders for this current season. What was the purpose of this transaction? Did he just develop while in the minors for the Wilverines only to know he was going back to New York?

Yeah, that was the deal. I gave up two prospects and a 2nd round pick in return for a veteran pitcher and 5 CP's on Speece for the rest of the year. The 5 CP's was accomplished by sending Speece to the Wiverines Minor League team, and then he was returned to the Highlanders at the end of the year.

I can't find where this is explained in the guidebook, but its out there somewhere. Maybe in the forums? Anyone know?

Rules governing CP trades are mentioned under the-"Game And Site Questions" dropdown. Then go to- "Site Wide League Rules", then: "Draft Pick and CP Trades", and also underDetails Of Trade Agreements Must Be Posted".
CP trades may also be mentioned elsewhere but I can't find where. In any case CP trades are covered in the rules for Site wide and league rules.
In response to robmb's question about the purpose of CP trades: CP's are vital in developing players. They are very valuable since developing players is one key aspect to fielding a winning team. Especially in the long run.
I hope this helped to answer your questions.

I think I understand now. Basically, as part of the deal, you agreed to use your CP's to help Speece develop for one season, then he returns to NY, hopefully with some improvements.

Thanks!
