No-hitter

Struggling through a three game losing streak, including two games in which he failed to survive the 4th inning, Joe Millette broke out of his mini-slump in a resounding fashion. Millette pushed his record to 22-8 with his third career no-hitter. The only other Duke Snider league hurler with three no-no's, Gary Rand, watched the game from the dugout.
Interviewed after the game, the often brash Millette was modest in his comments. "I've had some games when I've come close, but at this stage in my career I didn't think I'd get another. I get by more on guile now, rather than on the great stuff I had when I was younger. It's an honor that Gary was on hand for the game; he's been a great rival and an inspiration over the years." When asked if Rand is the best pitcher he's ever seen, Millette responded diplomatically. "He's up there, but don't forget that Mike Medich was my teammate for almost a decade. Jeff (Johnson) deserves to be part of the discussion as well, and don't forget that guy we have in the bullpen (Paul Riss), who is as good as anyone has ever been for an inning or two."
Rand, a long time rival and combatant in several bean-ball exchanges involving the two pitchers in the past, declined to comment when asked by reporters.
