We have a few changes coming on on May 14th:May 10, 2012 at 09:16PM View BBCode
One more minor thing to add. We show advertisements on the site from a few different ad networks. Sometimes, they let through an ad that shouldn't be shown, like a popup ad, and we have trouble tracking down which network it is from. We've added a bit of code that will show in the footer which ad network the ads on the current page were pulled form. This will help us troubleshoot these bad ads in the future.May 10, 2012 at 10:49PM View BBCode
The GOP is buying a lot of ad space on the site lately, I notice.May 11, 2012 at 12:01AM View BBCode

Wow, you guys have been busy!May 14, 2012 at 08:46PM View BBCode
It is heavily weighted towards arm, but range does play a factor too since the fielder needs to run to the ball and pick it up cleanly.May 14, 2012 at 09:17PM View BBCode
Thanks!May 14, 2012 at 09:23PM View BBCode
I have some questions, sorry for being difficult as always...May 14, 2012 at 09:53PM View BBCode
If stretching does not currently include stretching a single into a double, what is the stretching situation for "Taking 2nd" used for? Actually on top of that, I don't understand what "Taking 2nd with runner on 3rd" means at all. Is that for wild pitches/passed balls? It won't have an effect for leagues not using the new engine.
Is speed not a factor in stretching, or is it somehow associated with the weights we give the different speed ratings in the Stealing prefs? I thought we'd be able to differentiate between a fast guy stretching and a slow guy staying put.Speed and the defense is taken into account first to see which bucket the event falls into (definitely would get thrown out stretching, definitely able to reach the next base standing up, or stretchable). If a play is stretchable, your preferences are considered to see how often it should be attempted. Like stealing, the more often you try to push the envelop, the lower your success rate will be.

are successful stretch plays going to show up in d-vision or just kills? Seems like its gonna be hard to know if your strategy is helping or hurting if its just kills.May 15, 2012 at 04:17PM View BBCode
I believe what Paul is stating in the above post is that in base stealing there are factors where we select to steal more or less often by the runners' speed and the catchers' arm. These factors are not available for us to select in this new stretching event. So a slower runner will not necessarily be stopped from going from second to home if all the other factors tell Abe to send him.May 15, 2012 at 05:39PM View BBCode
doug - it is programmed in a different manner. Think of a stretchable event as the perfect storm where the ball is hit just to the right spot, the fielder is the proper skill level, and the baserunner is the proper speed. It is based on timing - a ball hit by a slow guy to RF may be stretchable, whereas that same ball hit by a fast guy is a stand-up double. The preferences let you dictate how risky to be given the game circumstances.are successful stretch plays going to show up in d-vision or just kills? Seems like its gonna be hard to know if your strategy is helping or hurting if its just kills. For singles stretched into doubles, and doubles into triples, you will see stuff in the boxscore. Though as I stated, this feature won't be turned on for any leagues yet.

Ok, I am little confused. Are our settings based at all on the chance of the stretch being successful? For example, using random numbers I've made up, if there is a 80% chance to be successful will players run if I have the set to be conservative or higher but if there is a 25% chance they will only run if I have them set to ultra aggressive? Or does the chance of success not play a role whatsoever? The way I'm reading things it doesn't factor in the chance of success. I hope I'm wrong there, because I hate the change if that is the case (I like it if it isn't).May 15, 2012 at 10:29PM View BBCode
Let's say for a given circumstance, there is a 10% chance that the play will result in a successful stretch, and a 1% chance that the runner will be out stretching. If you are aggressive in that circumstance, there might be a 15% chance of it being a successful stretch, but a 3% chance that the runner will be thrown out. If you are conservative, there might be a 3% chance of it being stretched, but a 0% chance of being killed.May 15, 2012 at 10:46PM View BBCode
Another change that I had forgotten about.May 15, 2012 at 11:34PM View BBCode
That's kind of a bad example because it includes 0%. Let me rephrase. Will the percentage of successful stretches be lower on a more aggressive setting?May 16, 2012 at 03:57AM View BBCode
So the stretching will only apply to those leagues using the new random engine. or another way. If my league uses the current random engine, I don't need to set my stretching preferences? I'm really, really confused now.May 16, 2012 at 02:59PM View BBCode
Will the percentage of successful stretches be lower on a more aggressive setting?Yes, the percentage will be lower. The total number of successful stretches will be higher though.
Another question. Does the "When the pitcher is next to bat" option include stretching to home? Because obviously you would want to be less aggressive to 2nd and 3rd but much more aggressive when going home. I don't see a way to differentiate that.Yeah, it does include stretching to home. This may be something we add a new preference for as you bring up a valid point.

I'm really, really confused now.Baserunners stretching applies to all leagues. Meaning the runner on 1st stretching to 3rd on a single. A player stretching a single into a double, or double into a triple, only applies to leagues using the new engine.

and the only leagues using the new engine is the speed leagues?May 18, 2012 at 06:14PM View BBCode
All leagues are using these settings for stretching for baserunners. Only leagues using the new batter/pitcher matchup engine will get stretching for batters (no leagues are currently using the new matchup engine.)May 19, 2012 at 01:06AM View BBCode
Will Gold Glove rankings for outfielders take into account the increase in assists?May 19, 2012 at 11:34AM View BBCode
I've been tracking the extra outfield assists in one of my leagues. Here are the results so far:May 20, 2012 at 10:43PM View BBCode

For other baserunning events, there isn't a way to see if an event was stretchable, but your preferences told the guy to stay put. We will consider adding this for the future, though it could be a bit tricky.
