Still confused about keyed in

So in the third quarter of the BPFL NFC Final New Orleans first drive goes:
Shotgun/pass, Shotgun/pass, Pro Set/run, punt.
The second drive goes:
Pro Set/run, I formation/run
defense is keyed in, Pro Set/play action pass, Pro Set/pass, I formation/pass, Pro Set/run, Pro Set/run, I formation/pass intercepted
defense is keyed in.
In an earlier thread you mentioned that keying in doesn't carry over from quarter to quarter so how is the defense keyed in the first time they see an I formation, after pass/pass/run/run out of different sets is all they've seen in the 3rd quarter ?
Then later after seeing multiple sets go: play action pass, pass, pass, run, run they again key in on I formation pass.
Seems like a bug to me.

The keying isn't tied to formation, it is tied to play type.
pass/pass/run end/run end/run end (keyed defense)
med pass/med pass/run mid/run end/med pass (keyed defense)
Though I admit it is extraordinarily confusing and I really, really don't think that the offensive opportunity to choose a different play is working correctly because I generally run a very balanced offense and frequently have a 30% or higher chance of NOT being keyed against and if we are getting 4 chances to choose and I'm getting keyed on anyway it is driving me nuts.

While I think the concept of keying in is a good one and one that could really work well when the strategic element of the game is expanded, ie choose defense based on formation, down and distance- I have to wonder if it's really working as intended.

Well first off formation should absolutely enter in but regardless in the above sequence the first "keyed in" comes after
two runs left, in different series. The play that the defense "keys in on" is a run right so logically with the defense "keyed in" to run left it should have worked but netted only a yard.
The second "keyed in" is unfathomable to me: what exactly were they "keyed in" on ?
Logically after a run right, then a run left they should have been keyed in on a run, if anything at all, but instead they apply heavy pressure and force an interception.
I'll tell ya these guys are freakin' geniuses........................ or there's a bug .

I'm pretty sure there's a bug, I just haven't found it yet. On the other hand, the run numbers work with it doing what it's doing, fixing the bug will probably throw the numbers out of whack.
