Age Based Declines

Are we sure these are realistic? Vyto Johnson had 5 declines at age 32. That climbed to 10 at age 33. Now that he is 34, Vyto has suffered
45 points of decline. The other 34/35 year old QB's suffered a similar rapid decline--two were around 100 points of decline in one year.
Now I will admit that I have lost a step or three as the years have passed by, but Tom Brady (34) is still slinging the ball. Hasselbeck (34) was never as good as Brady, but he is still going strong. Then there is that Green Bay/Minnesota guy who played into his 40's.
Yes, age should play a factor, but these massive drops don't really happen.

How about this guy with 129 declines this OS:

Is that some sort of record?

Declines were heavily increased in the most recent update.
You'll notice Vyto Johnson did not decline in Throwing Accuracy. That is not luck, that is by design. Speed and agility are the first things to go, but "learned skills" such as execution and throwing/kicking accuracy decline later and slower.
Now, 45 points of decline
sounds like a lot but the only place he took a serious hit was Health at 9 declines. No other skill took a more than 4-decline drop.
Why do I say "4-decline drop" rather than "4-point drop"? Because, like improvements, declines are not necessarily a full point. Vyto's overall rating is 80, still red-letter, as it should be.
Also, remember that improvements go where you need them, but declines are across the board. redcped's example, QB Cap Jones, took his biggest decline (9 declines) in Pass Cover. I doubt he cares that his QB's Pass Cover rating has declined.
Now, Health is falling off rapidly; it was designed to, but it looks like it's dropping harder and faster than intended so there may be double-dipping going on. This is important, as players who reach health of 1 or lower will now retire due to health reasons, no mater how otherwise good they are.

To answer the question "Are we sure they are realistic"? No, we aren't sure. But the old declines were way too slow. Football players don't have the slow decline of baseball players, in most positions they fall off rather quickly. It's something we will need to watch.

Gruneisen, coming off possibly his best season with 677 yards rushing and 13 TDs, has probably declined himself onto the waiver wire .

He only took one more Speed decline than he did last year. But yes, RB's don't last long after age 30.

Yeah, not complaining just observing. He's had a very solid career for the 350th player taken in the initial draft, the 47 rushing TDs are the 3rd highest in league history.
There aren't many 32 year old RBs in the NFL so I don't think we should see many in the SIM either.
