Time out Issue, not sure how to address it

In this game AFE does what I tell him to do but it's still not the right thing to do.

My offensive settings call for time outs when the game is tied and there is 80 seconds or less on the clock, but in this case I'm already at the Miami 20 when the 80 second mark hits, already well within FG range and under no circumstances do I really want the clock to stop.

As it is we keep stopping the clock, even when we get a 1st and goal from the 5 with 52 seconds remaining. The upshot is we give Miami 47 seconds on the clock to try and mount a comeback without them having to use their timeouts.

Thankfully we won or I'd have had to apologize to my neighbour, again, for my laptop ending up in his backyard.

Needless to say this would never happen in real life. Perhaps the "tied or behind" need to be untethered, with a point range for behind ?

Yes, I think the idea should be in the red zone when a FG will tie or give you the lead or inside the (?/5/10/?) when a TD will tie or give you the lead.

You want to save one timeout and let the rest of the time run down if you can.

But there also needs to be an exception that keeps you from running out the clock on your own chance to score a TD when that would give you the lead. It's definitely very tricky.

This may not be that hard:

"If tied or behind by [x] or less and within [x] yards of the goal line, and there is more than [x] seconds on the clock, do not call a time out."

Would that have done it without causing undue side effects?

Yeah that would probably do it, I might have called the first time out at the 20 but not the other two ,

Maybe I need two of these rules, so you could set one at "behind by 3 or less" and the other at "Behind by 7 or less".
