The average NFL game has just over 17 penalties called, source NY Times and Advanced NFL Stats, the Sim averages less than 8 per game and my team did not play a single game last year where more than 12 were called.

I don't know about offside in particular but there are far fewer penalties overall in the Sim than in the NFL .The average NFL game has just over 17 penalties called, source NY Times and Advanced NFL Stats, the Sim averages less than 8 per game and my team did not play a single game last year where more than 12 were called.

I dont doubt it because it seems like there should be more offensive penalties too

The number of 17 penalties being called in the NFL- does that include both accepted and declined penalties? If it includes declined penalties then the real NFL number of penalties would be lower. Regardless, seems that ours should be higher.

I believe it's penalties called, however a quick run through of NFL games, week 5 produced an average of 12 penalties accepted per game, week 4 was 12.75 and week 3 was 13.6 .

Also, do we know what the offensive vs defensive penalty ratio is here vs the NFL ratio? Then we have to consider what more penalties will do to the game. I took a brief look last week and it seems we already run a few less plays per game here than in the NFL already. Of course I've been known to make mistakes...from time to time.

So, it looks like we need to bump up the penalties a bit, so that we have average about 12 or so per game, since the game only shows accepted penalties.Also, do we know what the offensive vs defensive penalty ratio is here vs the NFL ratio? Then we have to consider what more penalties will do to the game. I took a brief look last week and it seems we already run a few less plays per game here than in the NFL already.
