Major Time Management Logic Flaw

September 15, 2011 at 03:01AM View BBCode

1st and 10 for the Blitz, they huddle and line up in a I Formation; the Hitmen line up in a 4-3.
Emil Moore takes the snap and drops back into the pocket.
The linebackers are blitzing!
Moore is under pressure.
Moore passes to Dave Proby at the TOR 49.
The ball is caught at the TOR 49 by Dave Proby.
Pass by Emil Moore is completed to Dave Proby for a 4 yard gain.
With only 38 seconds left on the clock after the play, the Blitz allow the remaining time to expire.

This was my team (Toronto Blitz) against the Detroit Hitmen in Week 1 of the 2nd season of our premium league (game link: [url]http://football.simdynasty.com/boxscore.jsp?boxscoreid=50842&pos=796[/url]).

We were down by a touchdown. How are we supposed to run a 2-minute drill from the 49-yd line with 38 seconds left if we decide to let the remaining time expire????
:puzzled:

I appreciate all the time you put into this Chris, but I have to say that I'm quite confused here!

Found and fixed... I'm surprised we never saw that happen in Gamma. I apologize for affecting your premium league.

It's ok, as long as things get fixed, I'm happy. I spent 2+ years on another site where things didn't always get fixed when things were brought up. This is great to see things get fixed in a timely way!

It actually did happen in Gamma, to Hamilton in the wild-card round.

Oh ok, then I'm blaming Hammy for my 0-1 start ;)

lol... on a serious note though, if anyone sees any time management issues in the Conference round games or the Sim Bowl please bring them to my attention right away.

Wait, what? I thought that New York ran out the clock at the end of the game, just like they should have. Where did my team mess up? Bummer.

Oh, I see that now. We were 58 yards away and just gave up. What losers. :)

Actually it did happen at the end of the "revised and unofficial" Sim Bowl, in which mighty champion LV somehow ended up down 16 points to non-participant AZ ...

Anyway, with 40 seconds to go, 30 yards away and down 16 points in the championship game, as daunting as that is, LV should not have taken a knee. You are absolutely gunning to the end zone in that situation, then praying for a 2-point conversion and an onside kick. Remember the Heidi game ...

Sorry, this looks like a dumb mistake on my part, I think I updated that code on the main site only. The update should be on Beta now.

This isn't major, but is time management.
This game is nearly decided but there is still a glimmer of hope.
With sliders advanced in passing and the new installment of 'pass more', this shouldn't happen. 3 pass plays wouldn't have used all the clock.

00:25. 35 49 ARI 2/3 CAL 5 2nd and 3 for the Arch Arachnids, they huddle and line up in a Pro Set; the Stamp Eaters line up in a 4-3.
Willie Spooge takes the snap, hands off to Slip Ensleid.
Slip Ensleid runs up the right for a 2 yard gain.
00:20 35 49 ARI 3/1 CAL 3 3rd and 1 for the Arch Arachnids, they hurry to the line and line up in a Pro Set; the Stamp Eaters line up in a 4-3.
Willie Spooge takes the snap, hands off to Slip Ensleid.
Slip Ensleid runs up the right for a 2 yard loss.
00:03 35 49 ARI 4/3 CAL 5 4th and 3 for the Arch Arachnids, they hurry to the line and line up in a Pro Set; the Stamp Eaters line up in a 4-2-5 Nickel.
Time expires before the snap.

Is it possible that your 2-minute goal line settings still give lots of running options?

 red. Ya made me look.

Well, I was serious, actually. I know I still mix it up inside 2 minutes, and in this case the dice just rolled a lot of runs. Even if you have it set to pass 90% in those situations, 2 straight runs is still possible. Slip might well have scored on the first run and rendered the rest moot.

"Pass More" and pass sliders won't change anything if only run options are in the selected strategy line. "Pass much more" will insert pass options even if they didn't exist before and will make sure any existing pass options add up to at least 50% of the possibilities no matter how slight they were before.

This is true, but even if either of the downs situations had a run scenario, being down 2 TDs w/ little time left, the risk of not being successful with the run is too high to consider.
There must be 10 sec left after the score for at least 2 plays; OS kickoff and 1 hail mary.
Also, the O had 3 shots at the endzone. One doesn't want to leave those on the table. This is a must pass situation.
