What does Execution do?

September 12, 2011 at 06:46PM View BBCode

"Execution" is sort of that catch-all rating that indicates how good a player is at playing his primary position. It essenytially fills in for a number of "special purpose" skills that are not added to the game because only one position would use it.

Here are some examples of what Execution means to various positions:

QB:
- Determines ability to get a pass to a "hot read" screen if under pressure from a blitz
- Ability to pass under pressure (equally with Agility)
- Increases consistency on short, quick passes

K:
- Allows for more consistent power and accuracy on long kicks
- Ability to compensate for wind
- Chance of flubbing the kick is based on the lower of Kick Accuracy and Execution

P:
- Improves hang time (along with Kick Accuracy)
- Overall punt accuracy (along with Kick Accuracy and Hands)

Holder:
- Part of the formula to determine Hold Quality (along with Hands)

Kick/Punt Returner:
- Determines how accurately the player can determine where the ball is going to land (in relation to decisions whether to run back the kick on a kickoff or let the ball bounce on a punt based on your strategy settings)
- Helps get the initial yardsage of the return (half as much as Kick Return)

Offensive Line:
- Determines chance of False Start penalty (half as much as Aggressiveness)
- Determines ability to pick up the blitz

Defensive Line:
- Determines chance of Offside penalty (half as much as Aggressiveness)

Onside kick (Kicker):
- Determines chance of ball falling short of the 10-yard limit (equally with Kick Accuracy) or going out of bounds (half as much as Accuracy)
- Determines the chance of getting the ball to "pop" into the air, making it harder for the receiving tiem to field (equally with Kick Accuracy)

Onside kick (Hands Team, both sides):
- Determines chance of recovering the ball in a scrum (equally with Hands)

CB/NB:
- Determines chance of Illegal Contact penalty

Pass Coverage:
- Determines chance of Pass Interference (along with Aggressiveness)
- Part of formula determining how well a receiver is covered (about one-third as much as Pass Cover)
- Part of several formulas related to YAC (along with Agility, Break Tackle, Carry and Speed)

Receiving passes:
- Determines chance of a Spectacular Catch (along with Catching and Jumping)

Note that this list is not exhaustive, just some examples of where Execution comes into play.
