Adding non-declared seniors

August 05, 2011 at 06:16PM View BBCode

You can now add non-declared seniors to your draft list. Other teams will not know you have added these players, and they will not be invited to the Combine, but if you find a sleeper it gives you a chance to add him.

The new players are added at the bottom of your draft list, so you need to sort them where you want them. You can remove added players from either the draft rank page or the college roster page.

I have a performance tonight so I will be unavailable for a few hours, I WILL run the draft after I get home come hell or high water. But please play with this in the meantime, as there are a lot of changes to support it so lots of places for problems.

Thanks!

I tested it and added a player successfully.

I'm not sure what a non-declared senior is, technically. Do seniors even have to declare? Or are these guys who were preparing to go into the mines if they didn't get called for a tryout?

Also what will happen to these undeclared seniors after the draft ?

Will they go into the waiver pool and continue to pursue their dream ?

Will they just take office jobs or become junior high phys ed teachers ?

There's a lot of drama here.

Valid questions. I found a couple guys and moved them into my rankings, but I'd be surprised if I got any of them because we only go 7 rounds here and I've moved a lot of players around.

It would actually be cool to have something like "undrafted free agents" who would be available.

For instance, if only one team ranked a player, that team would have the first shot at actually signing him in the preseason if he went undrafted. NFL teams do this all the time, calling guys right after the draft to invite them to camp.

I'm not sure how it would work with multiple teams ranking a guy who then went undrafted. Maybe whoever ranked him higher? Tie goes to the worse team?

I like the idea, sort of like a "negotiating list" but there would have to be a limit on the number of players each team could have on their list.

Non-declared seniors are seniors that don't have an asterisk next to their name on the college rosters.

There are 960 seniors in any given year, but only around the top 200 seniors declare for the draft, mostly because the drag and drop interface really gets sluggish if I put the whole pool in. 112 players are selected during the draft.

All declared seniors and juniors and undeclared seniors move to the waiver wire after the draft. Any of these players who reach the end of the season, are more than 24 years old, and have not played a game start thinking of retiring (they actually just give up and disappear, without even a news item). Their chance of quitting is Attitude dependent but averages 30% per year; if their overall grade is less than C, they definately disappear. Otherwise, the wire would quickly become clogged with thousands of useless players.

That makes sense.

So there are going to be 850 new players on waivers after the draft? Wow. With the depth of talent in this draft class, we shouldn't have trouble finding replacement-level players.

Well, the college players are created internally at a couple of different "levels". You'll notice that after the top 250 players or so the talent falls off.

The game is designed to support from 8 to 32 teams, but there are always 960 seniors. So enough are generated at the normal talent level to support the draft for the number of teams in the league, and the remaining ones are generated at only 80% of that level. A few of these with high potential and attitude may cross the boundary during their four years of college, but many of those 850 players will not be useful and will retire right away.
