Week 2

July 18, 2011 at 03:59PM View BBCode

It looks like the Hamilton/Colorado game could come down to the last possession. Nice first half, Ed, good luck to you guys.

Philly is just silly. 28-3 against a solid Sacremento team? Wow.

NY and SF are tied at 10.

Calgary and PHX are tied at 3.

Chicago is demonstrating again that they don't know how to play defense, but they lead 17-14.

Las Vegas leads Jacksonville 7-3. After beating Hamilton soundly last week, are the Predators the top team in the NCE?

SAS is ahead by 4 over Edmonton in a Canadian showdown.

Houston has jumped out to a solid 17-3 first half lead.

I'm thinking we will have another group of exciting games here to wrap things up. Good luck!

What a difference a penalty makes. :(

We had 3rd and 2 from the COL 22. Completed a 2 yard pass for a 1st down, but it was negated because of a 15-yard personal foul penalty. We missed a 49 yard FG and gave COL great field position.

Just in case that wasn't enough, we then commit another personal foul, allowing them to start the drive from my 45.

We went from a possible 1st and 10 at their 20 and taking a minimum 13-10 lead, to trailing 17-10 with no momentum. Sad day.

The River Cats game against Philly is turning out to be the ugliest game in River Cats history. 35-3 after 3 quarters. Nothing is working: we can't stop the run or the pass and can't run or pass ourselves. Yikes!

Yeah...Hamilton, you might wanna have a talk with your boys about ways to relieve frustration off of the field...I know it's the navy and all, but still..

Still a good game though..anything can happen. We've got similar total yardage numbers, but we've got almost twice as many first downs as you guys through three (17-9). We had 20 first downs last week to lead the league...hopefully we beat that this week.

Good luck in the 4th quarter all!

Also, I wonder if we'll see a similar pattern to Week 1..because:
In Week 1, Houston was leading after three quarters. The other 3 ACE teams were losing.
Houston ended up being the only one to lose.

Now, in Week 2, Houston leads by 18, but Phoenix and Toledo are each down by 7, and New York is down by 10...does history repeat itself? I doubt it.

I survived a scare as Jacksonville came back to tie it up at 10, and had the ball at my 30 with about 1:30 to go, but an interception and a clutch 47 yard FG allowed the Predators to prevail.

Our game was closer than it looked. We made those 2 mistakes with the penalties and it pretty much killed us. Good game, COL. I'm hoping to see you in the playoffs, though I'm doubting it very much at the moment.

Yes....that game was a very good game. I was a bit surprised at your end-game tactics, but we were never really in the clear.

The Hitmen allowed 30+ points in week 1 and the defense bounced back quite nicely by only allowing 3 points in week 2...The offense still needs help though...I may have to switch to a more pass oriented philosophy...

I'm honestly not sure why we went for 2 there. I have my 2-point settings set to slightly more aggressive than "normal" but I wouldn't think that it would be worth the risk EVER to try for 2 when down 8 with 1:30 to play. Oh well. lol

Actually, the Speedos can't play defense. Doomsday had 25 first downs compared to Speedos 16 but we still came away with the victory.

Game notes; Midway Airport suffered a severe concussion so you can't land any planes there for the next 33 days.

I´d just as soon go to Kabul as Chicago anyway.

On a lighter note...

The Trojans again find a way on the road with a come from behind 4th quater win. Joe Wille IX had another sub-par outing and Joe "Butterfigners" Alexander (21 carries 46 yards, 2 fumbles, 1 lost) continues to disappoint, but the defense held Cow T. to 90 yards on 20 carries and came up with 2 late stops to get the win.

The Champs have had rocky start but they are tough and well coached. Glad to be able to check that one off the schedule

Philly was on today. It was one of those games where everything worked. Amos Forte completed 88% of his passes(!) for 300+ yrds and 4TDs, no picks, 1 sack. The D showed up too keeping the Cats out of the endzone.

The Philly Phaithful are pleased....for the time being. You know how those Philly fans are.

The Metric System Fails Canadian Football Fans

Football is a game of inches. Unfortunately, the average Canadian football fan has to know how to translate that into centimeters. There was a time when everyone in North America knew that 36-inches make a yard, or 5280 feet make a mile. In the mid-80's, Canadians lost their way and converted to Système international.

How, you might ask, does this relate to today's game between the Eskimo Pies and the Polish Cavalry? In simplest terms, the Pies lost their game today because of the Metric System. That's right, the Metric System. How else can we possibly explain Alan Wrigley's powerful drive for a two-point conversion failing to deliver? The play started on the two yard line. Wrigley ran for two yards. Unfortunately, the Chainman was measuring 180 centimeters, not 182.88 centimeters. A simple rounding error at the hardware store made the difference.

"At least is was Canadians we were playing." Said Coach Nanook following the game. "They had to get out their calculators too."

Despite the loss, the Pies can be satisfied with their effort. The game, despite the math problems, was close throughout. Both teams left the field drained, but in good spirits. Rumour has it that both teams we meeting for a Kokanee after the game.

Next up for the Pies are on the road against Divisional rival, Jacksonville. The Cavalry will host the Colorado Wolves.
