RMFL Multi Season Info

July 16, 2011 at 04:42AM View BBCode

quote from Chris in a earlier post in regards to custom rules etc........

Rules that are customizable by league are:

- Quarter length
- Allow/disallow 2-point conversion
- League start year
- Set of cities allowed
- Numbers vs. letter grades with +/- vs. letter grades without +/-
- Minimum skill rating to appear on depth chart
- Enable/disable "off-day" before the Sim Bowl
- Name change rules (see below)
- Overall injury rate
- Overal percentage of major injuries
- Salary cap
- Inclement weather rate
- Kickoff line
- Enable/disable offday between every game (so 1 game every other day, for those who want time to really analyze games and strategies)

The name change rule options are:

0 (default): Player names may be changed up to and including week 4 in a season; nicknames may be changed at any time.
1: Player names may be changed once in their career; after that the only change possible is to revert to the player's original name. Nicknames may be changed at any time.
2: Player names may not be changed; players may not be given nicknames.
3: Only nicknames may be changed.
4: Player names can only be changed during their rookie year; nicknames may be changed at any time. Players may be reverted to their original name.

[color=Blue]So if you already have a group of players that you want to start a Premium League with, it's a good time to start discussing the preferred set of rules.[/color]

So i think we should all vote on which rules and so on
I probably wont be in the league from end of sep to after new years due to getting married and staying with some family in a non wifi part of australia, so obviously i wont be in the RMFL multi season once its started.

Quarter length? Meaning 15 minutes? That's what I want..otherwise, if he means time between quarters, what we have is fine by me.
2-pt conversions are a yes.
1960 is fine, yes?
All cities.
Letter grades with +/-
Minimum of C-
Enable off-day before Sim Bowl
Name Change Option 3
Overall injury rate: high (meaning in accordance with real life, which is higher than what we have now)
Overall percentage of major injuries: See above.
Salary cap is a definite yes for multi-season
Inclement weather doesn't matter to me
Kickoff line at the 35? Keep it NFL style?
Disable offday between every game

Minimum c-
Day off before sim bowl

i would prefer

1gpd, 15min quarters
2 point conversions on
start year doesn't matter to me
i don't care too much about cities. all of them is fine.
+/- visible
min C-
no day off
name changes 4 (simply because there were a couple of guys i went back on forth on before settling on a name)
i don't know what injury rates are available. any level is fine.
salary cap
weather normal
kickoff 35yd
no off days

Mr preferences are:

- 1 gpd/ 15 min quarters (similar to the schedule we have now)
- 2 pt conversions on
- 1960 (why not?)
- all cities
- Actually, I wouldn't be opposed to numbers, I like them in the football sim, but letters w/+/- is fine as well
- Min C+
- off day before sim bowl
- name change 4 (like DD, I had some I went back and forth with)
- I prefer slightly higher injury rates, but a lower or moderate occurance of long-term injuries, my understanding is that IR is available in long-term leagues
- salary cap, but a slightly higher cap than what we use in the single season leagues (perhaps 130,000 instead of 128,000, or even as high as 140,000)
- weather on and normal
- standard kickoff (35 yard-line)
- no off days between games

Here is where we currently stand. 10 owners have weighed in so far.

Rules that are customizable by league are:

- Quarter length [color=green]The current set up with 15 minute quarters and 3 hours between simulated times seems to work well for everyone.[/color]

- Allow/disallow 2-point conversion [color=green]We have 10 "yes" votes to allow 2-point conversions.[/color] [color=blue]We had 1 comment that they should be limited to the 4th quarter.[/color]

- League start year [color=green]Nobody really cares. 1960 will work fine.[/color]

- Set of cities allowed [color=green]We are all good with all cities (unless "tier 3" isn't the most?). So we would leave them all available.[/color]

- Numbers vs. letter grades with +/- vs. letter grades without +/- [color=blue]This one has had some differences of opinion. 6 in favor of letters with +/- and 2 in favor of numbers. I have played the football sim with the numbers in beta, and I like it. There is still a ton of guesswork because no one really understands how the sim works, so the numbers help us to make better decisions without necessarily hindering player movement like they do on the baseball side. Thoughts?[/color]

- Minimum skill rating to appear on depth chart [color=blue]We have had everything from C- to C+ suggested here, with most people seeming to settle on C-. I have yet to see a "C" or "C-" player with any value to add to the team. In fact, I would be in favor of limiting this to a numeric 50 (high C+) if we went with numbers.[/color]

[color=red]I'll have to come back and finish this later. Sorry guys.[/color]

I can promise you that I am not cooler than Fonzi. I live in Canada. The coolest guy in the country does the 10 PM National News. (We are so boring we have 10 PM National News.)

However, thanks for the vote of confidence! ;)

I'm not sure I'm ready for a pay league, but for what it's worth:

15 min. quarters
Allow 2-point conversion
League start year--Agreed with everyone else, 1960 is fine but any year works
Set of cities allowed--All
Letter grades with +/-
Minimum skill rating to appear on depth chart--C
Enable/disable "off-day" before the Sim Bowl--Either way, this one doesn't make a big difference to me
Name changes 4
Overall injury rate--Same as now
Overal percentage of major injuries--Same
Salary cap--Same
Inclement weather rate--Same
Kickoff line--35
No offday between games

My own comments:

15 min quarters - I doubt any league will ever change this. Shorter quarters are an option, but quarters longer than 15 minutes are not supported. League start year is another thing I doubt a league would change.

Injuries: Injuries are ramped way down in the current Single-Season game from reality, both in frequency and severity.

Salary Cap: there is always a salary cap but it can be set high enough as to disable it.

Set of cities: The tiers are:

Tier 0: Current NFL cities
Tier 1: "Recent" NFL cities (essentially Tier 0 + Los Angeles)
Tier 2: This was planned to be the "default" set of 54 cities. In addition to current and recent NFL cities, it adds historical NFL cities, cities from the USFL and other cities with professional football:

Birmingham (USFL Birmingham Stallions, 1983-1985, also WFL Birmingham Vulcans, 1975 and CFL Birmingham Barracudas, 1995)
Boston (USFL Boston Breakers, 1983, also NFL Boston Braves and Boston Redskins, moved to Washington in 1937)
Charlotte (WFL, Charlotte Hornets, 1974-1975)
Colorado (Arena Football Colorado Crush, 2003-Present)
Memphis (USFL Memphis Showboats, 1984-1985, aslo WFL Memphis Southmen, 1975)
Michigan (USFL Michigan Panthers, 1983-1984)
Milwaukee (NFL Milwaukee Badgers, 1922-1926)
Nashville (NFL Nashville Titans, 1998)
New Jersey (USFL New Jersey Generals, 1983-1985)
Orlando (USFL Orlando Renegades, 1985)
Phoenix (NFL Phoenix Cardinals, 1988-1993) (Should probably be Tier 1)
Portland (USFL Portland Breakers, 1985, also WFL Portland Thunder, 1974-1975)
San Antonio (USFL San Antonio Gunslingers, 1984-1985)
Louisville (NFL Louisville Breckenridges , 1921-1923)
Syracuse (AFL Syracuse Braves, 1936)
Providence (NFL Providence Steam Roller, 1925-1931)
Newark (AFL Newark Bears, 1926)
Sacramento (WLAF Sacramento Surge, 1991-1992)
Anaheim (Arena Football Anaheim Pirahnas, 1994-1997, also NFL Los Angeles Rams
Hartford (NFL Hartford Blues, 1926, also UFL Hartford Colonials, 2010-Present)

Tier 3 adds CFL cities and other cities that don't jump to mind as being associated with football but did host pro franchises:

Calgary (CFL Calgary Stampeders, 1909-Present)
Florida (WFL Florida Blazers, 1974)
Las Vegas (CFL Las Vegas Posse, 1995, and XFL Las Vegas Outlaws)
San Jose (Arena Football San Jose SabreCats, 1995-Present)
Toronto (CFL Toronto Argonauts, 1873-Present)
Brooklyn (NFL Brooklyn Dodgers, 1930-1944)
Saskatchewan (CFL Saskatchewan Roughriders, 1909-Present)
Montreal (CFL Montreal Alouettes, 1946-Present)
Hamilton (CFL Hamilton Tiger-Cats, 1869-Present)
Baton Rouge (AF2 Baton Rouge Blaze, 2000-2001)
Toledo (NFL Toledo Maroons, 1922-1923)
Tulsa (AF2 Tulsa Talons, 1999-2000)
Arkansas (Continental League Arkansas Diamonds, 1965-1969)
Rochester (AFL Rochester Tigers, 1937)
Edmonton (CFL Edmonton Eskimos, 1949-Present)
Winnipeg (CFL Winnipeg Blue Bombers, 1879-Present)
British Columbia (CFL BC Lions, 1954-Present)
Norfolk (Continental League Norfolk Neptunes, 1965-1969)
Shreveport (WFL Shreveport Steamer, 1974-1975)

I am quite disappointed to see that the CFL cities are not included in the Default city choices. It is doubly disappointing to see that they are being bumped for the likes of Birmingham, Boston (plus the New England), Memphis (plus Nashville, plus Tennessee), Michigan (plus Detroit), Milwaukee (plus Green Bay), Louisville, Syracuse, Providence, and Newark. The CFL is an active league that is/was/will be the home of some NFL greats. To exclude these cities is to exclude some fairly rabid Canadian fans.

I am sorry for not being clear... Tier 3 (All cities) is currently the default. Tier 2 was the default in the original design; at that point there were no CFL teams at all. So no cities are excluded unless a league explicitly requests them to be. I expect the only choices that will ever be made are Tier 3 (all cities) or Tier 0 (just current NFL cities).
