You disagree? Make your own rankings!
Otherwise, just enjoy my Friday night musings!
1.
American Conference East: Toledo (5-1); New England (4-1); New York (3-2); Baltimore (0-5)
Combined Record: 12-9 (That's right, a .571 win percentage!)
Teams Over .500: 3 (Who's the loser?)
Average Points Scored per Game: 21.52 (#1! by almost 2 pts/game)
Average Points Allowed per Game: 19.95 (#2!!...Oh wait...they're not #1?)
Total Net Points: 33 (#2!!!...crap. Nevermind..)
No team in the league is undefeated, but this conference has got 2 of the 4 1-loss teams, and New York isn't far behind. Together, those 3 teams have more wins than any other conference. They also have a red-haired ugly stepchild that lives in Baltimore though, quite possibly the worst team in the league, averaging only 11.4 pts a game (against 22.6 pts/game allowed).
2.
National Conference East: Dallas (5-1); Hamilton (4-1); Philadelphia (1-4); Chicago (1-5)
Combined Record: 11-11 (You see that? That means they want to be #1!)
Teams Over .500: 2 (That's how it's supposed to be...right?)
Average Points Scored per Game: 19.82 (#3..they only care about the number of wins apparently..)
Average Points Allowed per Game: 21.18 (#3..how did they get that #2 overall ranking again?)
Total Net Points: -30 (#3. Shameful. At least they beat...the ACW...)
This was a tough one actually, as they have two very good teams (Hamilton and Dallas) and two not-so-good teams (Chicago and Philadelphia). Still, you can't ignore the top pair. Dallas owns the best net point differential and the number two offense in the league. Hamilton owns the number three defense in the league (should we mention Chicago's league-worst point differential and defense? No? Oh, oops..)
3.
National Conference West: Anaheim (4-2); Los Angeles (3-3); Colorado (2-3-1); San Francisco (2-3)
Combined Record: 11-11-1 (You see that? That means they want to be #1 even more!)
Teams Over .500: 1 (In case you didn't get it with the combined record..)
Average Points Scored per Game: 19.91 (#2 at almost 20 pts a game..)
Average Points Allowed per Game: 18.39 (#1...that's right..defense wins championships..)
Total Net Points: 35 (#1....see...they actually have a case..)
I almost went with the NCW for #2, but I didn't, so I guess you could call me out for East Coast Bias...despite my team being in the NCW! They are the only division with all four teams out-scoring their opponents; however, they are also the only division without at least two teams over .500. Talk about underachievers! (Though to be fair, they are the only league with all four teams having at least 2 wins--some would call that parity.) Newcomer Anaheim seems to be the lone bright spot in the division though.
4.
American Conference West: Sacramento (3-2); Houston (3-2); Oakland (2-4); Calgary (1-4-1)
Combined Record: 9-12-1 (Ouch..the only losing record in the league..)
Teams Over .500: 2 (Hey, doesn't that mean they're better than the NCW?)
Average Points Scored per Game: 19.59 (#4...I have a feeling they better start liking the number 4..)
Average Points Allowed per Game: 21.32 (#4...like it yet?)
Total Net Points: -38 (#4. Pathetic. At least they beat....a couple of the worst teams in the league..)
This division isn't doing so hot right now, weighted down by Calgary and they're also the only division with 3 teams with negative net points (Houston has a -3 NP total despite a 3-2 record). They've also scored the fewest total points, allowed the most total points, and have the only losing record for a division.
Thoughts?
