I'm trying to get a handle on passing lengths. I understand the QBs have different arm strengths. Which, will effect release time, speed of pass. Does this effect distance? What would be the ranges of short, medium and long passes. When we set our plays, will the yardage selected effect what is considered a long pass as far as yardage.April 05, 2011 at 03:00AM View BBCode
A QB will check down and throw a shorter pass if the defense takes away the long ball. This is at least somewhat determined by the QB's "aggresive"" rating. The less aggresive the QB, the more likely he will check down if he doesn't get a favorable coverge.April 05, 2011 at 03:01AM View BBCode

"Short" is defined as less than 8-10 yards, "Medium" is around 8-20 yards, and "Long" is around 18 yards and longer. As blakjakshalak noted, long passes may occasionally checkdown to a nearer receiver (usually the TE) if the long receivers are too well covered; this is a function of QB aggressiveness.Pages: 1
