clock not stopping after kickoffs near two minute warning?

April 02, 2011 at 03:18PM View BBCode

I noticed this play from the boxscore in my game today in the Willie Brown league:

02:22. 0 10 LV --- OAK 30 Oakland lines up for the kickoff. Danny Mitchell kicks off for the Raiders. Kick hang time: 3.75 seconds. The ball is caught at the LV 8 by Don Joseph. Don Joseph returns the kick to the LV 23. TWO MINUTE WARNING; Clock has been stopped.

Now, there's 22 seconds before the two minute warning, surely it doesn't take 22 seconds to execute a kickoff and the ensuing return. For comparison's sake, the opening kickoff only 4 seconds off and a kickoff after a field goal took 9 seconds.

Is this just an isolated incident/bug?

If this is the second quarter, the timing is technically correct; the clock is restarted adter the return and the two minute warning occurs during the ensuing huddle. If it's the 4th quarter it's a bug, as the clock is not supposed to restart in the last 5 minutes.

It was the second quarter, so that explains it. The rule seems a bit weird to me but oh well. Thanks for the info!

I need to review this one. Every written source I've found confirms these rules but actually watching NFL games, the rules don't seem to be applied that way.

On the other hand, our rules don't always perfectly match the NFL (as it's a football sim not specifically an NFL sim, and there are so many rule changes in the NFL).
