I probably don't understand it right. if it reads 0:44, does the play start at 0:44 or is 0:44 the end of the last play?
I just thought that if the play started at 0:44 and ended at 0:23 (as the receiver went out of bounds after the catch), the QB would have been running around for almost 20 seconds before throwing the pass...? which may also be possible but unlikely...

The time is a bit confusing. A play consists of:
Huddle (0-30 seconds depending on time strategy)
Set and snap (3-5 seconds)
Actual play time (varies based on type of play)
Reset time and substitutions (time getting out of pileups and returning to your side of the LOS) (5-8 seconds)
So the time on the clock represents 5-7 seconds after the last play ended as the barrier between "last play" and "this play", when both teams are back on their own side of the field. In the next code update, I am changing the reset time to a flat 5 seconds so the clock time is always 5 seconds after the whistle for the last play. I should probably make it the exact time of the last play ending, it would make things easier to understand, but it would require a little rearranging of code.
Also, the dot after the time indicates that the clock is not running; no dot indicates that the clock is running. So that almost 20 seconds is huddle, set and snap time in hurry-up mode, plus about 5 seconds of play. (The reset time isn't counted as the clock stopped at the whistle.)
