Games paused

March 15, 2011 at 08:04PM View BBCode

I've paused games on Beta for a bit while I fix why the defense didn't adapt to the screen. I've found the bug; I'm also removing the distinctions between shotgun, sideline and normal for passes.

By "removing the distinction" do you mean:

A) the defense will now treat every Long Pass as a Long Pass regardless of which was actually called

or

B) the offense will no longer be able to specify Shotgun or Sideline, but the pass distribution and formation distribution will be randomized?

I mean A, for the purposes of determining if a passing strategy is "overused". Alternating between medium and short pass is still a valid way to "beat the system" but alternating between medium SG and medium sideline is not.

"Play Action" passes are handled separately, so one could alternate between Medium Pass and Play Action Pass to abuse the system if they really want to.

Also, I'm adding a line to the play-by-play that says "The defense is keyed in" when a strategy has been deemed to be "overused" and the defense adjusted and enhanced to match. I don't know if I'll leave this line in when we go to the live site, and if I do I may reword it (since "key" has a specific football meaning other than this), but it will be useful to us to determine what's going on.

Ordinarily I'd run this a dozen times locally before turning loose on Beta but I'm falling behind schedule so I'm uploading it now. :)

Wow, and it got used all over the place. It's obviously way too sensitive. Pausing games again.

Which games were affected, I didn't see anything unusual in the 3rd quarter of New Orleans vs. Washington

The "keyed in" phrase appeared twice (I think) in the 3rd Quarter of the Hamilton vs. Oakland contest.

All the keying definitely stopped the Abusers.

Well it would make sense that a defense would "key in" on a team that never runs the ball, I'm not sure that's a flaw
