Juiced QB's?

March 07, 2011 at 03:51PM View BBCode

Is there a problem with the top QB's and performance enhancing drugs?

The regular season in our league has been completed and 3 teams have smashed the NFL single season team passing record of 5,232. Top passing team put up an astonishing 6,508 yards; the #2 passing team threw for an amazing 6,063 yards; the #3 team only broke the record by a paltry 494 yards with a total of 5,726. The #4 team, inept by comparison, only missed by 263 yards with a total of 4,969.

We had 3 QB's laugh at Dan Marino's record of 5,084 yards. Our top guy threw for a staggering 5,875, #2 not far behind with 5,794, and #3 had 5,351.

I'm thinking we may need to reconvene the Mitchell Commission to investigate possible infractions of the drug policy.

Through 15 games, the top team in my division has thrown for 8080 yards... [url=http://football.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=58340]Their QB[/url] has thrown for 7147 yards so far... Though, on the bright side, he's barely completing 55% of his passes.

There have been a number of adjustments this first season related to passing. Overall, though, I do expect that numbers here may be higher than NFL numbers because our owners don't have the same pressure to play conservatively as real owners/coaches do. But most of this has to do with long passes being too effective and getting too much YAC; fixes have been put in but too late to fix this season's numbers.

The problem, I think, seemed to be that long passes get completed at about the same % as short passes, and interceptions don't really rise as far as I can tell.

That, and his QB is actually a cyborg. ;)

I'm going to put in stats for QB by passing distance, then we'll be able to see.

Long pass % definitely seems too high. And wayyyyy too high on 3rd/4th and long situations. The odds of converting a 3rd and 15+ are very low in the NFL, yet in the sim even with the best possible defensive play call its pretty much the same as converting a long pass on any other down.

there is nothing particularly mystic about performance on, say, 3rd and ten, as opposed to 1st and 10 or 2nd and 10. they SHOULD be essentially the same in the sim.

i'm sorry, but that is incredibly simplistic and i can't agree at all. 1st and 10 the offence can run any play it wants. 2nd and 10 the options aren't too limited. but 3rd and 10 is almost always going to be a pass. the defence knows this and schemes accordingly. it is, and should be, much harder to convert a 10+ yard pass on 3rd down than it is to complete the same pass on 1st and 10. suggesting otherwise is fairly silly, in my opinion.

that is correct. I did not explain my point correctly. phen0m's first post said that "even with the best possible defensive play call," so I assumed that that was already accounted for. I may not have understood. what I meant to say was essentially this: if a team runs the same play against the same opponent using the same defensive scheme, it should not matter what down it is for those plays, as anything effected by the down has already been accounted for. If that was not what you meant, then I apologize. My mistake.

[url=http://football.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=68623]Kwami's[/url] at 7206 yards through 14 games, and has 440 through 3 quarters in todays game The backup QB has thrown for 800 so about 8440 in total so far. The team's also on their way to 15-0.
