After todays 1st quarter

March 01, 2011 at 01:34PM View BBCode

It seems like heavy pressure means nothing. Pretty much every pass completed, no interceptions in two leagues.

After one quarter:
My defense applied heavy pressure 8x.
3 completions.
1 interception.

The other team's defense applied heavy pressure 6x.
3 completions.
No interceptions.

Completions were screens and short passes.

Are you finding the same mix of completions?

2nd Qtr update:

Heavy psi: 20x
Complete: 10x
0 inteceptions

Short passes were most common completion type, but I'd think that the picks are more likely to come on medium to long pass attempts under heavy pressure. How is your game progressing?

My teams are both struggling against heavy pressure. I've made adjustments for the second half so that I throw shorter passes. We are completing less than 50% against heavy pressure at the moment in both leagues.

I had HP in most instances for 3 straight downs. All the 3rd down and longs were completed.

2nd quarter same thing. Its broke.

It does seem that the completion percentage is too high. QBs are passing with impunity, and it seems only bad luck can stop them (meaning, the odd tip by the defense isn't enough to stop them). I understand the formula is delicate, and while I'm not sure of exactly everything that goes into it, it seems that maybe a finer control can be had by tweaking the peripheral numbers a bit, instead of the main factors.

I have teams in 3 leagues. We have teams 50% or better comp. , 6 , 5, 10. That's 21 teams out of 48. If an NFL team has QB under 50% , they are looking for the reason why, or another QB.

If this isn't fixed no one will ever pay for this.

This is now 3 qtrs of having HP on almost every passing down only to watch 3rd and long after 3rd and long completed.

consider yourself lucky. since the changes went into place, my QB has thrown 9 interceptions in 11 quarters. prior to that he had thrown 6 interceptions in 40 quarters.

But its not all about completion rate. If you're under heavy pressure every passing play, you replace linemen, not the QB because his completion rate isn't high enough. If thats the way it gonna be, why draft defensive line high at all max out bids on all the offensive players and watch yards go by.

blitzing needs to be buffed, as of right now it is pointless...

[url=http://football.simdynasty.com/roster.jsp?teamid=360]Colorado Wolves[/url]

Total Completions: 29
Completion Percentage: 56%
Total Sacks: 4
Total Interceptions: 2
Total Passing First Downs: 16
Game Score: 31-6, Colorado.

Throws Under Pressure
Times Pressured: 28
Times Heavily Pressured: 16
Sacked: 2
? Interceptions: 1
? Thrown Short: 0
? Thrown Wide: 4
? Thrown Incomplete (without other explanation): 6
? Tipped Away: 1
? Dropped Interception: 2
? Dropped Pass: 2
? Prevented from Catching: 2
Screen: 2 (0/2)

  • Long Gain (9-20yds): 8
  • Monster Gain (20+yds): 7
First Downs: 15
Touchdowns: 3
Completion Percentage: 24/44; 54.5%

There was one spectacular catch in there that should have been an incompletion (was an 84-yd TD instead), and this doesn't take into account a ton of broken tackles, but still...not much difference from an unpressured QB. Don't get me wrong though..I enjoy my passing attack, and my WRs are pretty good..

This thread is about completion %. The question is how to stop passing. This game appears that it will be constant adjustments (Game plan adjustments). Match up receiver vs. Dback. Post I was responding to had supplied a link to game. He is being TORCHED on 3rd down. I didn't watch entire game. He was torched on 3rd and short. Can't be sure what defense was. 4-3 was formation. My guess was he game planned for short yardage. Blown coverage, wrong coverage it becomes a game of catch.

Yeah its my thread. This was the absolutely worst experience I've had with this sim. Put a guy under HP on 95% of his pass plays and watch him make 3 and long time after time after time. I get under pressure, not heavy, on my first pass attempt of a series and its intercepted.

This was absolutely frustrating. All game long. And then on the short completions on with HP, they break the tackle on every play. Ridiculous.

He seemed to be hitting you over the top on short yardage. I can't tell what your D was looking for. But, if your looking to stop the short gainer and he goes long it's pitch and catch.

I'm not looking to stop the short gainer on 3rd and 14, when its the 3rd consecutive pass and I have HP on each attempt. Heavy pressure means nothing right now. Having a good defensive passing line is a waste. And I'm not looking to stop the deep pass on 1st and 10, or 2nd and 6 etc. It was just a complete unfun situation. I don't mind losing, but I don't care for being robbed.

I think your case is just bad luck. I'm in 3 leagues, and in all of them, QBs struggled more when under heavy pressure than otherwise (I don't know the exact percentages, but I saw this thread earlier in the day and kept an eye out when watching my games)

opponent through the ball 69 times...i was in short zone, man to man, i blitzed, deep zone. I played him before and knew he would pass every time so I game planned accordingly. he threw 6-8 yard completions and would break a tackle about 70% of the time... basically nothing worked in stopping this attack.

how do you stop the pass?

he must have broken over 30 tackles

That quarterback is better than his B+ rating would suggest. His strength is in a West Coast offense-style short passing game; his receivers all have solid break-tackle stats. Try covering him with Zone Shallow and hit him with the Sam-Will blitz on occasion; stay away from Blitz Corners or he'll hurt you with the quick outs. You said you've tried Zone Shallow which is the preferred defense against a West Coast style of play; it may need to be beefed up a bit. This may be the kind of place where I need to add another defensive formation.

In the latest update, some pressure can be taken off of a quarterback by his Execution and Agility ratings. I will check it to make sure I haven't pushed the balance too far back.
