Changing Ads on Post Confirmation page

February 24, 2011 at 11:47PM View BBCode

There are a few pages on the message boards and the site where you see a brief message and are forwarded to another page. We've decided to increase the size of the ads on those pages to ads that pay a bit more. I hope nobody minds.

Let me know if you have any questions.

These have been added to the login page.

These adds appear every time I go to another team and they take up about a quarter of the screen. They are not at the top of the page and they delay the process of getting to the home page.

Just got another one when I posted the previous message.

Hi Leonard,
I don't believe these ads will delay you in any way. When switching between teams in the past, you always got a brief message that said Logging in, forwarding to home page. Or when posting, you got a brief message that said, post successful forwarding to message.

Do you find the ads overly annoying? One of the problems we've run into is that the higher paying ad networks are lousy about letting popup and expandable ads through their filters. I've decided to try to use the lower paying networks and supplement that with these brief ads on the "Forwarding/Saving" type pages, which I hope provides a better overall experience for people while allowing us to keep the game prices as low as possible.

Don't we already have enough ads on the site...it is a pay site after all.

In fact it's the only pay/subscription site I belong to that I have ads forced on me. Maybe there are others but not that I frequent.

There are banner ads at the top and bottom of pages and now they're flashing all over the place.

Personally I'd be more than willing to pay a bit more for the game not to be pestered by flashing lights in banner ads telling me to click on my age. Put the ads in the Trial Leagues, the Home Page, the Login Page, but once we're in the pay leagues we really shouldn't be subjected to ads.

Send a poll to your steady customers. See if they'd be willing to pay a few bucks more to help you out and not have to have ads flashing at them.

I may be in the minority on this, but I disagree with this.

I am much happier paying less and letting the ads subsidize to an extent. Ads just don't bother me. They're furniture. I'm glad they help offset the costs a bit.

After a game when I want to go to another page like standings I get adds with no way of getting off them but go back and then forward again. There isn't even any thing at the top to go to another page.

Ridge - that sounds like an issue of some kind. It may not be related to ads, can you create a thread in Support? If possible, can you take a screen shot of what you are seeing?

I'll take everyone's feedback into consideration. I like the idea of having different prices for the teams based on what level of ads you want to see. I'll noodle on that idea a bit.

The ads for the login screen are nice, that screen never said or did anything other than say "log in successful" anyway and it does NOT impact the speed of accessing the site at all. I think it is great that you guys are generating a little bit of ad revenue from a page that no one cares about. LOL

It definitely takes longer to get to the home page. It's not a huge amount of time, but it's definitely annoying.

If the ads are going to keep the price down for us then I don't see the big deal.

My problem hasn't happened for awhile now. Hopefully this post doesn't bring it back

Leonard - I am curious, how many seconds does it take, can you look at a watch when you switch teams? Are you on dial-up internet?

About 7 seconds. Using DSL.

Wow, that is surprising. It shouldn't take any longer than a normal page load, as it is just loading an ad which every page loads for the most part.

What does this site say your speed is?

I don't see that info. When I click on instant speed test it wants me to purchase the full edition. I don't see a speed rating there.

My work computer tested at 1.36 mbps, which is abysmally slow, and I'm using an outdated version of Internet Explorer (I think we still have IE6, it is embarrassing). It often takes over 20 seconds for me to switch between teams, but that is normal and I have not noticed anything being slower since you put the ads on the "loading ..." page.

From my home computer and from my laptop the pages load in 5 or fewer seconds, averaging about 3.

the new ads do not impact my load times in any way. like others, i do not find them in any way bothersome am and perfectly happy to continue to look at them for 3 seconds if it keeps my costs down.

No impact on loading times for me either....
