too many pass interferences, too many safeties

I'm seeing pass interference occur two or three times a game. that rate seems a lot higher than the NFL real world.

As for safeties, our league had two in the first week, and one already in the 2nd week. this seems like a lot.

In 2004, the average number of interference penalties per game was just under 1 (0.93). It has been historically higher than that. From this ESPN article, you can infer that the number of penalties in 2004 was relatively low and that the league was concerned and started to emphasize it again.

I think that the safeties are up because the default settings for the "yellow zone" are really, really pass heavy.

My first game: http://football.simdynasty.com/boxscore.jsp?boxscoreid=1123&thid=117 there were 2 pass interferences.
My second game: http://football.simdynasty.com/boxscore.jsp?boxscoreid=1136&thid=117 there were 5 pass interferences.

Um ... wow.

In that second game, OAK attempted 71 passes and Rochester threw 42 times.

Considering that the NFL record for most pass attempts in a game is 70 (at least, that's what a quick search revealed, maybe not true anymore), I don't think the pass interferences are too high, I just think you have some pass-whacky teams playing there.

The first game had 2 penalties in 49 attempts. It may be slightly high. Does anyone have data from the NFL for this stuff from last season? I'm not having any luck finding it anywhere.

My penalty analysis data shows an average of 1 per game, but of course pass-heavy offenses are going to have more. 2 or even 3 in a game occasionally doesn't worry me (any game involving random numbers will do amazing things eventually); 5 is worrisome.

I'll flag this for investigation.

As far as safeties, Hamilton is probably right, my default yellow zone settings are probably not ideal. Plus, in "real life" I think there is an instinctive "buckle down" response in teams with their backs against their own goal line that the simulated players lack. I'm not quite sure what the best course of action to deal with that is.
