Eliminate IR from single seasons

February 12, 2011 at 04:15PM View BBCode

Someone in the Reggie White League placed 2 guys who are injured for less than 1 week combined on the IR. I'm not sure if he realizes that IR makes the player out for the year, but for single season if someone is hurt for the year, they can just be released. I think people might interpret the IR similar to the DL in baseball where they can come back later on, and to avoid confusion, I think that if it's possible, the IR should be taken away from single season leagues.

If you're in the preseason, I think you can move guys on and off IR at will. At least, I think you can in the NFL. Once you get to the regular season, then yeah, you have to keep guys there. Of course, either way, it doesn't really matter in a one season league.

Just clicked on the injured (not anymore) player's card, and this is the message "The Charlotte 61s have placed John Brown on the Injured Reserve list for the remainder of the season."

Again, I think people may confuse the IR with the DL in thinking that they will be able to return. This guy is no longer injured, and it is the 4th week of the preseason, but this owner will not have him for the rest of the year now

Yeah, testing it out with my injured guy (6th string RB, I don't really care) the only options are to waive him or put him on the trade block. At the very least, there needs to be a warning that IR is for the entire season. Plus, I don't think you should have IR during the preseason either.

IR is pretty usless in single season mode. My other option would be to make it behave like the baseball disabled list, such as make it take a player out of service for a minimum of 4 or 6 weeks, but the best solution is to probably just remove it.

Chris brought this up to me last week. My response was to leave it, since it would be better to learn about this feature while in the single season leagues than to misuse it with a pay team.

What do you guys think?

I honestly don't see the purpose of having an IR option in single season. I would just do away with it completely.

While we're on the topic or IR, two things:
1) Are they supposed to count towards the salary cap?
2) Am I supposed to be able to waive them?
Because he does count towards the salary cap, and I cannot waive him off of IR.

If you're going to leave IR in, you need something telling the user the implications of putting a guy onto IR. I think you can leave it in, but there needs to be a double check somewhere before the guy goes on IR, and not just for single season leagues.

1) Yes.
2) No.

So, at least that part is working correctly.

I agree that their needs to be a disclaimer box or something that pops up when you want to put someone on IR.

Well, he still has the "waive" option in the drop downs, it just doesn't do anything when I try and submit the transaction.
