WTF????

January 25, 2011 at 05:52AM View BBCode

54 games into the season and the Brooklyn Kings are 3rd in the NL? I thought we were going to suck this season. :puzzled: Maybe we should spend some of that unused $20M+ in team salary.

if you had anything to trade, i would send you one year contracts, good players too. but you don't have anything, i mean, nothing.

ny and atlanta are truly good. your team can't catch them.

When you're in the same league as the Knights and Hamiltonians, dont count on a playoff bid. But you definitely have a pretty good chance of the LCS. At this point anyway, but its early.

I know I don't have anything... that's the mystery. This is wild. The Kings no chance of clinching a playoff berth, but it's fun watching the season unfold as it has been to date. Our total collapse probably is "right around the corner."

i meant you don't have anything to trade. if you did, i would give you stuff, for cheaps. because my team also has no chance, never did. not from day one, not today, not tomorrow, not ever this season.

I thought NY had a good team last season, and it lost the NL Wildcard to Brooklyn by one game. You never know what can happen in SD...

I have completely ignored the ASL since signups ended, just noticed that the Devastation are contending .

Looking at this it appears to be because everyone in the American League are bad rather than Detroit being good .

I suppose if I got tm to give me a big hitting OFer I might have a chance, I'm going to take a look now.

(i actually will demand something, to make it look good. my conscience is clear as far as seattle, the hobos, boston go, they won't trade anything anyway, so, i don't have to worry about sending anything to them.

Im REALLY surprised to see Tampa Bay in front of Kansas City AND Boston, of all teams. Werent they just the joke of the AL? Oh wait, thats Texas.

have you looked at boston's team? its horrid. it has like two hitters, maybe, about one and half pitchers.

Not closely until now. Now that I look, they dont look that much better than my team. But the fact that Boston tied for 1st last year and now they're in 6th place, is, well, just sad.

its an altogether sad team, yes. he should change all the pictures to frowny faces.

Also, KC sucks too. And I have the same amount of salary committed as Cleveland and Texas. I have $30 million I could have thrown at guys on the last day of signings, but did I?

I'm quite proud of the job I did spending 30 minutes or so tidying up Tampa, remember they won 11 games in 1959 .

I probably should have spent more time on my own team though for some reason we're winning right now.

you didn't, because everything that was left there was turd.
tm4559

January 26, 2011 at 03:55PM View BBCode

(here is the thing, there is a reason it was all turd. almost all the good players get signed up on long term deals, and the free agents that are available each time are players that go from one team to another on short deals, most of them aren't very good, or players that used to be good that played out their long contracts and are now going from team to team.)

if these leagues are going to go in a general sense, i believe there have to be two things put in that go kind of hand in hand:

1. teams should be able to hold onto players by some mechanism for a few extra years and not have to pay them so much (but it would be substantial, some sort of a sliding scale where they were compared to the higher salaried veteran players and they got some significant percentage of what they get). like arbitration salaries. the reason for this is, there is little incentive to improve players, they grow up, right when they become real players, they go free agent. there has to be some payoff to development, even if it is only a couple of extra years to the team that is holding the player (THIS WOULD ALSO PROMOTE...GASP.......TRADING. WHAT THE HELL IS THAT? TRADING?). or the leagues will go talent short, this is what is happening here. i realize the situation would be a little bit better in leagues where folks are paying for the teams, but, still, i believe it would be a problem. you can't lose, lose, lose growing up players, and then just watch them all walk. this wouldn't really be a tanking problem, because the window to win would be so short. those big tanky dynasties come because once you get a great player, its yours forever.

2. contract lengths need to be capped, very short, probably three seasons at the most. two would be much, much better. the big long term contracts just take too many good players off the market, turn the free agent selection each season into a crap fest, and lead to outrageous salaries on the back end that only end up hurting the teams that offer them in the first place. i realize this is not too realisitic, limiting the length of the terms. but it is just kind of pointless for all the players that would be sparking the interest in the bidding each season to all be locked up on long deals. its boring.

I agree that the free agent market has pretty much dried up, this is the same scenario that the NHL is witnessing (except worse in the NHL because their cap keeps expanding) .

Does this happen in the AML ??

also, boston. i applauded your decision to promote this

http://beta.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?mode=player&playername=nobody&id=63614

for a host or reasons, including, it was too good to maroon in the minors, and, with players only being under control of your team for a limited time, chasing a few improves in the minors is just throwing away one of the few years you get. but you really, should, let it pitch. D endurace relievers? can pitch 130, 140 innings and beyond. it hasn't pitched in six days. if you're going to do that to it? you might as well send it back to the minors and put points on it. you are treasured.

How can I turn the pictures to frowny faces. I think everyone on my team except the 2B is platooning. I had only 3 players signed going into the FA period this year.

I almost feel like this is how small market teams feel. They develop players and then they get to FA and they leave and you have no real chance of resigning them even with the whole leadership bonus thing.

You reminded me that I had the setting to pitch a pitcher last if it had 3 or fewer energy bars.

in the AML there is usually 3-4 top notch pitchers (like A overall guys) each year and a few really good bats as well. There really seems to be 2 schools of thought on building in the AML spend big money on 1 year deals, especially for arms or try to sign guys to long term deals at a bit of a cut rate using the contract length bonus. some teams will also use their cap space to try to get guys with good leadership on 1 year deals for big money and then try to sign them to long term deals the next year at a reduced rate

I'd agree that it is a pain that you tend to lose your guys when they are ready to hit their prime, but since almost every owner is very active in the FA process the good players tend to be spread out at bit more, making the ability to develop your own cheaper guys or being able to grab the spare parts for cheap important.

There also tends to be a fair amount of trading in the AML too, usually guys selling off people with expiring deals when they are out of it or people moving contracts around when they are at or over the cap prior to the season.

this year there will be 19 A- or better arms, 9 will be 34 or older and 7 under 30
for bats there will be 37 A- or better hitters again mostly either under 30 or over 34

Speaking of trades, all of KC's expiring contracts are for sale.
