Postseason notes

January 16, 2011 at 10:18PM View BBCode

There has been little discussion about the postseason, but I want to throw a couple of notes out there:

- Players do not collect or convert IC's during the postseason

- All players, no matter their Attitude, are at 100% Conditioning during the postseason. This includes players coming off an injury in the week before a game.

- There is an off week between the Conference Playoffs and the Sim Bowl, which gives your injured players a bit more time to heal. This off-week translates into a real off day for owners so they can study their opponent and craft a winning strategy; private leagues can turn off the "off day" for the owners but the extra Sim time will still exist for healing (the calendar will simply advance two weeks instead of one between the Conference Playoffs and the Sim Bowl).

- I've added menu options to go directly to the Postseason Schedule; normally a link appeared on the schedule page after week 17 (which has now occurred) but you can view prior playoffs from the Postseason Schedule and there was no reason to make you wait until after week 17 to be able to do that.

- Unlike the NFL, Sim Bowls are not held at a neutral site. The home team is decided by weather; the team with the best looking weather forecast after the Conference Playoffs (2 weeks prior to the game) gets the home field. The sim looks at wind, weather and precipitation, with wind being judged heaviest as it has the most effect on the sim. Of course, forecasts are not always perfectly accurate, so a Sim Bowl may still be played in less than perfect conditions.

Could you set things up to be at a neutral site? Maybe let the worst team in the league "host" the Super Bowl? Just in case you ever implement a measure of homefield advantage.

If I do implement home field advantage I could just nullify it for the SB.

The things that are tied to "home" are the weather, the name at the top of the scoreboard, the scoreboard numerals, and the "Welcome to xxxx" text; the weather is the only thing that has any meaning, and both teams are affected by it equally.

I suppose I could override those items and select another location. I may do that at some point. Right now though I don't want to take my sights off the more important things.

In reality, the SB site is chosen years in advance for more financial reasons than any other, and "home team" alternates between AFC and NFC.
