Improper 4th Down Logic

December 11, 2010 at 06:22PM View BBCode

In the second quarter of the [url=http://footballbeta.simdynasty.com/boxscore.jsp?boxscoreid=1240&thid=106]week 8 game[/url] between Tampa and BC there is an illogical 4th down decision.

Tied at 7-7 with 4th and ten from our own 31 and 34 seconds remaining BC goes for it .

This is not indicated anywhere in my fourth down strategies .

Of course Tampa then scores to take a 14-7 lead ..........damn I hate AFE already.

Tampa went for it on fourth down too. This looks like the bug I fixed, did I forget to upload the fix?

Checking the logs, it did evaluate your field goal preferences because it calculated a 54% chance of making the field goal. Failing that, it should have punted. Now, there is code in the game to prevent punts inside the 30, but you were at the 31.

This was a bug in evaluating the first rule under Fourth Down Situations; it's been fixed for the next game.

I was at my own 31, not Tampa's, so the field goal attempt would have been 86 yards .

4th down logic fails Tampa in the 4th quarter, unless they have very odd settings.

With the game tied Tampa goes for it on 4th and 18 from the BC 21 yard line with 59 seconds remaining . The field goal attempt would have been roughly 38 yards so I can see no reason why any coach would not attempt the field goal there.

I'll take the win however

:D

I must have been looking at a different kick in the logs. Embarrassing, but it still led me to finding and fixing the bug at least.

I need to make my logs easier to read. Near as I can tell, a field goal wasn't even considered here. Digging into it.
