Elite Pitcher Available

December 05, 2010 at 09:23AM View BBCode

It looks like I'm a little over the cap. Could anyone use [url=http://beta.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=61475]Covington[/url]? I would deal it for a cheap pitcher, though I'd like one that is still pretty decent.

Let me know. Thanks!

I would trade with you but I can't get a trade request to go thru because I don't have 22-25 players on my team.

I would trade for him except that I find the idea of committing more than 20% of my available salary to a guy who plays 38 games a year to be ludicrous .

i think we should clone a new pool and start over. because this one has become stupid.

the oscar gamble league would be a great one to clone. a system 3 league with a ton of players. it even has a dopey a+ starting pitcher like 24 for everyone to go all stupid over.

The issue is that I have about 30 millions of free space and it's a 1 year deal. If I don't spend the money, I loose it so it's not like it hurts me or anything. If I could carry the money forward, then maybe I wouldn't spend it.

Well yeah that kind of makes sense, but I'd stick it to rogue because he absolutely has to move roughly $18 million in salary .

Someone will get it at in a very decent deal and dramatically improve their team. If an owner's focus is sticking it to another owner as opposed to taking advantage of a great opportunity to improve their team, then that owner will wind up losing out on what could be a very beneficial transaction.

I see you roughly $15 million under the cap after signings, the AL will likely be a four team race again this year so maybe Covington makes the difference.

The deal makes some sense for Boston.

Lets analyze the situation:

NY has allowed themselves to end up roughly $18 million over the cap, that's $18 million or roughly 22% over the cap.

By being over the cap NY has virtually no chance to compete, given the performance penalties accrued for being over the cap.

Therefore in order to make their gross mismanagement tolerable NY has to move $18 million in salaries .

In all honesty a decent deal is:

"here's a 3rd round pick, allow me to take this bloated contract off your hands to let you have a chance to compete" .

However, the reality is that NY won't make a deal that heinous, and will rot the team out before doing so. However, by making a reasonable offer, a team with a bit of cap room could add a true stud pitcher and both teams could have a chance to compete.

So I guess you didn't want to take offers and just moved it to the first deal you received then. I pretty much was offering [url=http://beta.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=62620]John Snells[/url] and my 2nd round pick for the same two players.

Hey Shaheen

I never got an actual offer from anyone other than Hamilton. You and Hamilton were the only owners that expressed interest via U2U, so I sent both of you similar offers last night. When I checked again, he had accepted the offer I made to him, which cancelled the offer I made to you. Had I received an offer from you with Sells in it...or even a U2U of the offer, I would have made the deal.

This whole thing simply proves that Hamilton and Shaheen are much better human beings than I am .

This should come as no surprise to people who have played in leagues with me previously .

He originally asked for Don Gallagher ... I nearly choked. But, I haven't had any luck at all in free agent signings the past 2 OS and my hitting is dreadful, so I'm hoping that a top 3 SP trio of Covington, Gallagher and York will win a WS for me. If not, I'll miss Haney next season when he is a quality 2/3 starter for under 2M.

Yes, I know it is laughable at best. But I offered for Jeremi Meyer and Rogue would have none of that.

I'm trying to do the opposite of Hamilton and field a team built upon a core of potent hitting supplemented by semi-useful pitching. I didn't expect to get both Meyer and Bramhall...but once I did, it made more sense to deal Covington for a lesser pitcher.

And Roosters, I don't think Hamilton and Shaheen were being nice (or better human beings). It's simply sensible to make a reasonably priced deal that significantly upgrades your team, rather than trying to "stick it" to another owner because they are in an unfavorable salary position. If Hamilton had played hardball, Shaheen might have accepted my offer this morning and stolen the player from under Hammy's nose. Your logic might make sense when trying to acquire a supplemental piece for your team at a discounted price...or if everyone else in the league is near their cap limit. But it is a bad strategy when competing to acquire an "[color=red]A[/color]" player that could truly be an impactful piece for your team.

i like what you did with the [color=red][size=64]A[/color] [/size]there. it makes it more meaningful for me.

Of course you got them, prestige didn't count in free agency bids this year so all you needed was money. :D
