My 1956 Free Agency Scorecard - Part Two

This thread will deal with guys I bid on and couldn't sign.
Bill Johns - signed with LA for 2 years at $2.7 million per year, I bid $2.2 for one year. I wanted Johns back and felt I had a competitive offer but LA beat me. He's having another great year .
Danny Upshaw - signed with Pittsburgh, 4 years at $5.5 million per year, I bid $3.8 per year for 5 years, NYN bid $5 million a year for 3 years. Upshaw had spent two reasonable years in Detroit at $5.5 per year but I had to balance numbers going into the free agency so I added years and reduced dollars . He signed with Pittsburgh on day one, I'm okay with it. He's good and reasonable value but not irreplaceable.
Eddie Rhodes - signed with Cleveland for 2 years at $5 million per year, I bid $2.2 million/year for 2 years, Atlanta bid $3 million for one year. Cleveland had tons of cap space and overpaid for a #4 starter.
Frank Howitt - signed with Cleveland for $4 million a year for 2 years, I bid $2.1 million per year for two years, nobody else bid more than $800K . Again Cleveland, with tons of cap space came over the top, he's a great pitcher but an elite closer in Cleveland is like a diamond collar on a hog, nice to look at but not very important.
Hal Gervais - signed with Cleveland for 5 years at $11 million per year, I bid $7.8 million for 7 years, Atlanta bid $7.5 for 7 years, KC bid $9 million for one year. I set the bar high for Gervais the previous season with a $9 million one year bid, but he's just not worth $9 million over multiple years and $11 million for 5 years for a guy who hasn't made an All Star team is, quite frankly, insane.
Rio Henderson - signed with Pittsburgh for 7 years at $6 million per year, I bid $5 million a year for 8 years and narrowly lost out. This one hurt, I had based my rotation projections on having Henderson locked down for the long run but tm outbid me . Henderson's a solid #3 maybe #2 type who has improved every year, even got a playoff start last year. I should've bid $5.5 and he would have been mine .
Scot Taylor - signed with KC for $600K, I bid the same but KC's prestige gave them the bid by $20K. Meh, he's a backup catcher, I'd have liked him but it's not the end of the world , still it's a good signing by KC .
