403 IP in a single-season?

August 27, 2010 at 09:56AM View BBCode

You must admit, it is kind of interesting some of the things that you can make happen just by setting preferences.

Superior tanking. Congratulations.

The OGL is doing some league wide experimenting Jason, its not tanking per se, they're stacking one or two teams to see what happens. One of the teams had a guy hit 99 home runs with a .434 batting average.

One guy hit 51 home runs with a .399 average and didn't make the all star team.

i always wondered if he really did hit 99 of if he actually got more but the game engine didn't have a third digit in that category.

You could track the game log to verify .

Here's his card. Since I can't count to 100 I'll let someone else do it

with one more bad pitching staff team to face, and smaller ballparks all over, it should be snap.*

[size=1]*if the games ever start running again.[/size]

[url=http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=7110983]This guy[/url], who I didn't pick up until the very end of may, hit 51 homers. And .411. And won a gold glove.

Basically, we're just testing the extremes of what could happen with the game engine and gameplay.

it brings up an interesting point that many folks have talked about. everytime somebody says "we can't get a pitcher to strike out a batter per inning" we always say, "the teams are more stacked, the hitters are better top to bottom than on real teams." so we have six teams in the division that are filled with basically awful hitters, and still we couldn't get a K per inning.

that thing was a+/a before it declined. by era and whip (before last season) it was the all time league leader, arguably, its the best pitcher the league has ever seen. and still it couldn't do it.

he couldn't lead the league in era apparently, either. the whip was not bad though.

the pitcher that led the league in era only pitched one game against the zombies. durant pitched seven games against them, i believe.

which is not to to say (the previous thing about a k per inning) that there should be a lot of pitchers doing it. but i guess it should be possible.

i'd even go so far as to say it should have been probable, last season.

Considering we'd achieved 1800's baseball?

There does seem to be an issue with the uppermost echelon of players not having the insane results that you see today in the majors (Chipper Jones in 07, Pujols and Votto this year). Perhaps a bonus for hitting 100 overall in a category should have a spike in results (Rickey Henderson's SB records, ect).

There is plenty of room for more HR's from a database standpoint.

As long as no one points to these cards someday and brags about these guys holding SD records, I have nothing but admiration for a group testing the limits of the game.

It's a good thing to do. I wouldn't want to do it with my money, but I'm glad someone is.

I think it shows a great deal that someone can basically double the expected hitting stats for a superior slugger, but a pitcher cannot achieve a stat like a K per inning. These outer limits show where the game can use some touchups.

i believe that the ogl has also set records for most and least players on one roster. neither seem terribly compatible with the game engine, so i wouldn't recommend either. not that either is ever likely to happen outside of the ogl.

403 is nothing

August 28, 2010 at 04:08PM View BBCode

The 403 IP thing ?

[url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=1668539]Baracus[/url] did that by the early part of August in his memorable 1961 season, without the help of other teams "pushing the limits of the game engine" .
tm4559

the bad hitters on the other teams had nothing to do with the 403 ip. if anything, bad hitters make it harder for a pitcher to pitch a lot of innings (they get out easier). but nothing reallly makes it hard. it is easy to get a pitcher to pitch that many inning's of course).
