ALCS Roundup

First things first...Congratulations to cubfan3 and his Detroit Wheels on a great season. 102 regular season wins is nothing to sneeze at.

Great ALCS...after dropping game 1 by a 4-3 score in 10 innings, the Yankees turned it on and never looked back, sweeping the next 4 games to take the series 4 games to 1. GM bob12140, when asked what the turning point was, replied as follows:

"It was definitely our starting pitching. They all cranked it up a notch for the playoffs. Even Kevin Brown's game 1 loss was a quality start. But after Contreras got us even in game 2, we left for Detroit with just a split at home, and went on to only score 1 run in game 3. Fortunately, Mussina was on his "A" game and we won game 3 by a 1-0 score. That was it - that was where I knew the series was ours."

"Our hitting was pretty much where it had been all year. We finished the season with a .288 team average and hit .282 in the ALCS, even without Drew Henson (.326-20-88). But our pitching was key...with a regular season ERA of 3.59, we managed to post a 2.42 ERA for the ALCS, even though Detroit finished the regular season second only to us in runs scored. Our ALCS WHIP was just 1.10 compared to 1.26 for the regular season. Proves the old adage that good pitching beats good hitting every time."

We're excited about playing Philadelphia. I know they play ball a heck of a lot better than they spell!

Finally, despite a fantasic performance by late season acquisition John Smith (RF) who hit .389, slugged .611, and had an OBP+SLG of 1.111, we have decided to give the ALCS MVP honors to the Moose, Mike Mussina, for his 8 shut-out innings in our crucial 1-0 Game 3 win.

On to the Happey Spellres...
