Back to Back

April 13, 2010 at 06:03AM View BBCode

Since no one appears to have noticed except lgriffio, I thought I'd let everyone know that the bashers of Baltimore, the mashers of Maryland, the Baltimore Bufords, won their 2nd consecutive WS title in 1993.

With a mixture of speed, power and great pitching (as well as genius management), the boys from Baltimore won 124 games and defeated two great teams in the LCS and WS, both in 4-2 series.

In 5 seasons, the owner, GM, and manager, shep, has a .640 winning % and 3 playoff appearances. Giving homage to the great MLB teams of the 60's and 70's, the Boogs, the Belangers, the Bufords, and now the Brooks have reached the pinnacle of Sim Dynasty.

With pitching that resembles the Palmer/Cuellar/McNally era, the staff is populated by these gentlemen:

Rocco Basetti
http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?mode=player&playername=nobody&id=5675098
Basetti inexplicably did NOT win the Cy Young last season, but finished 2nd after winning the award in '92. He started 4 games in the '93 postseason, going 1-1 with a 2.22 ERA, mirroring his 2.23 regular season ERA.

Gil Guzman
http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?mode=player&playername=nobody&id=5443857
Gil was a 20 game winner for the 2nd consecutive season in '93, lifting his career W/L % to an astonishing .702. In 4 postseason starts, he went 3-0 with a sparkling 1.90 ERA. Like Rocco, it's a head scratcher that with 21 wins and a 2.92 ERA, he was not selected for the all star team.

Clyde Derrick
http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?mode=player&playername=nobody&id=5886415
"Oil" Derrick, as he's known by his teammates, won 21 games in '93, and has clearly come into his own under the incredible pitching coach of the Baltimore franchise. He is undefeated in the playoffs, and his 1.89 ERA over the last 3 playoffs/WS is remarkable.

George Stewart
http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?mode=player&playername=nobody&id=6053154
Stewie won at least 16 games for the 4th straight season, despite struggling to stay healthy. He's been a monster in the playoffs, with a career ERA of 2.12, and a WHIP of 0.84.

Add to this mix the recent acquisitions of:

Len Boyd
http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?mode=player&playername=nobody&id=6390374
Len won 16 games last season, and is ready to be a major cog in the Brooks formidable staff.

Boileryard Crouse
http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=7087674&statsorimps=stats
Crouse has 26 wins over the last 2 seasons for last place teams, so the sky is the limit now that he is on a juggernaut. He will begin the season as the prime setup man, but will be ready to step into a SP's role should any of his mates falter.

Pitching is nothing without some offense to support it, and the Brooks will have a diverse lineup to put runs on the board, including the last 2 AL MVP's.

Bill Peters, SS
http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?mode=player&playername=nobody&id=5526605
Already highly decorated, with a ROY, 5 1st team all stars, 2 GG's and an MVP on his resume'. Even in an "off year" by his standards, he scored 129 runs and drove in 88, from the leadoff spot. His .516 OBP in last year's WS has him at .388 in career post season PA's, batting a robust .308. He's the definition of "sparkplug".

Salvador Pappagiorgio, LF
http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?mode=player&playername=nobody&id=5321513
The reigning AL MVP, he drove in an eye popping 144 runs, hit .346 in the WS, and won a GG. A 7 time all star, Sal is reaching the end of the road as a ballplayer. Don't throw him a hanging curve, though, he can still drive it into the upper deck.

Lars Goodman, CF
http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?mode=player&playername=nobody&id=5886323
Lars patrols CF for Baltimore, and last season did it very very well, winning his 1st GG. He also drove in 100 runs for the first time in his career. He has now driven in at least 80 runs in 8 of his 9 big league seasons, scored 100 or more in 8 of 9 seasons, was ROY, five 2nd team all stars, and three 1st team all stars. He's been remarkably consistent, and a fan favorite. His .360 BA with 4 HR's and 14 RBI's in 12 post season games led the charge for the only team he's ever known.

Larry Zonka, 2B
http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?mode=player&playername=nobody&id=5675104
"The Fullback" had his best season last year, setting career highs in HR's, Triples, Runs, Hits, SLG %, Games, and tying career highs in OBP and BA, earning him 1st team all star status for the 1st time as well. He hit a combined .352 in the LCS and WS, and has a career .329 BA in the postseason.

Sven Peterson
http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?mode=player&playername=nobody&id=6053241
Sven put it all together in '93. Like Zonka, he set many career highs last season, in important categories, too, such as BA, SLG, OBP, OPS, HR's, RBI's, and made the all star team for 3rd time.

The platoon catching arrangement was one of the most potent in the MWL, as was the RF'er.

Add to the lineup these recent players:

Shawn Petkovsek, C
http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?mode=player&playername=nobody&id=6644977
Shawn hit .295 last season, and is in his prime. Look for him to break your hearts and steal your women in '94 (and nail your stealers).

Ed Buxton
http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?mode=player&playername=nobody&id=6547189
Big Ed scored 103 runs for a last place team in '93, with power and blazing speed. He will move to LF for the Brooks this season, and is looking forward to helping the team compete for another AL pennant.

Good luck to everyone in the upcoming season, we're going to be tough to beat in '94!

Congratulations on winning again Shep..(although I was secretly hoping Cincinati would win,so that I could get a better draft pick LOL)

Sorry I took so long to congratulate you,but I am currently playing on my phone and my connection has been lousy lately:mad:

Now let's see if you can 3-peat...my guess is that you win 5 championships, then age will sink in and you will be a bum like the rest of us:saint:

LOL

Thanks, guys. That was a great series, Brent. I understand your disappointment, though.

You battled back from 0-2, forced game 7, which was one for the ages. Nuttin to sulk about, just go at it again...
