Bill Peters, picked up by the Boogs as an upgrade for SS from the Hamingtonians, won the MVP this season. He capped it off by being the Boogs playoff and WS MVP. In 10 games in the postseason, "Battlin' Bill" batted .400 with 11 runs scored and 11 RBI's. Don't ever let anyone tell you that high contact guys with less than B+ power aren't valuable players (especially Hamington).
Said Peters during the Parade through downtown Baltimore, "I'm so happy to have left the angry, unappreciative ownership in Toronto. I now can play for the greatest owner in all the world, the incredibly humble and generous SHEP! I hope you fans here in Baltimore appreciate what a magnificent human being he is, and what an honor it is for us players to be able to win championships for him. He is literally the most wonderful man alive today..." (Peters voice trailed off as he sobbed and turned to hug the beloved owner, standing nearby).
A large band followed his emotional speech by playing "Hail to the Shep".
In related news, Peters was signed to a 5 year, $125,000,000 guaranteed contract. Billy Doran, the Boogs GM, was seen beaming as he left the team's offices following the press conference announcing the agreement.

Great year for Peters, congrats.
By the way shep did you write Doran's wiki page ?
Here's an excerpt from it:
"Doran never made a All-Star team, but was regarded as the best second baseman in Major League Baseball in the 1980s. "

actually, it was a reference to an A+/B hitter in the CHL named Billy Doran, who I say should be a HOF'er but hammy disagrees.
and MikeD continues to add his snarky attitude to my posts.
you're class(less) act, mike.

(And they ask me why I left ...) :puzzled:
Seriously though, it is nice to see a real lead-off hitter (Peters) get the credit he deserves for a great season. He also led the league in doubles and received his second straight gold glove at 2B.
Oh, and he OPS'd higher than .850. Something that the not-so-impressive-yet-still-too-remembered Billy Doran accomplished 3 times in his far-too-long-for-mediocrity-to-last career.

what I liked was the guy saying he was the best 2B in Astros history before Biggio came along.
I guess he never heard of Joe Morgan...
Doran was a terrific defensive 2B, and I'll give the homer the benefit of the doubt and think he meant he was considered the best defensive 2B of the 80's.
The Astros have had good 2B play consistently through their history. Morgan, Tommy Helms, Doran and Biggio all fit well inside the top 100 2B in baseball history.
