The Good
- Remembering to do one of these this year.
- After a frustrating early run of bad luck, we've moved into the first division. Taking 5 of 6 from Chicago and Detroit was a lot of fun.
- Strong pitching. There's a clump of 3 top staffs, and we're in it. Hartnett (11-5, 2.72) is pitching like a true ace, and the rest of the rotation are doing what they need to.
- Surprisingly, good team D. Seems to be mostly the impact of Darrel Chaney up the middle.
- George Toms is an on-base machine leading off; I like Raben's stealing %age.
The Bad
- Terrible start for Justin Lehr. Truly awful for the first two months. That 5.26 ERA shows great recovery. Eesh.
- I kinda wish we hit the ball a little harder.
- Though I do basically wish them well, Milner and Cedeno each OPSing about 18,000 with their new teams isn't my favorite news.
The Wistful
- My goal was to get close enough to CHA and DET to catch one if they stumbled. Well, I did my part. Fellas ... ?

NYN...
Simple:
The good, bad and ugly:
The Philosophers are lucky. Eleventh in hitting, thirteeth in pitching and a bold seventh in fielding (-22 in great plays) point to one thing. It's only a matter of time.
Maybe I'll make a trade or two...

the good:
-Milner OPS-ing 18k-something :)
-Fields, Addison, Horner, and Milner are all young, improving, and making solid contributions.
-bullpen looks like it'll be really good in a few more years.
-several other young players with good opportunities to improve over the off-season.
the bad:
-some of said young players just can't hit. Morales has been atrocious at the plate from day one (he did, at B-/B-, chance into a gold glove last year.) Brenzel, Horstman, et al., will hopefully improve enough to contribute as backups one day.
-likely losing some contributing vets this offseason.
-losing blows
op-ed:
-I like the return of the mid-season report.
-I like some of the young guys we've got, but we're way too thin in the rotation. Could be a while before we're back in it.
