Poll Popup Window

February 24, 2004 at 09:45PM View BBCode

I added a little feature in today that will be a big help for me to communicate with you. It is a pop-up window that will show up when you first log in. I will primarilly be using this to do things like tell you your team has been deleted, you need to renew, someone on the message boards is trying to contact you, etc. But I also added a feature where I can store your answer to a question. Like "Just a reminder we are waiting for you to signup for your new team in the A-Rod league, are you still planning on signing up? Yes/No".

Anyhow, you'll see it when you log in and will continue to see it until you answer the question. I put a test message in it so you can all check it out. I don't plan on using this a ton, but it will be helpful for me to get a targetted message out there to a small group of owners.

good idea

for the record, I put "some", because there are still bugs to be worked out.

Just a thought, but it might be worth adding a small memo/comment field to your popup window so owners can add clarification text - example:

Poll Question: "Do you like the new draft pre-ranking system?"

Answer: "Some"

Comment: "I like the overall concept, but I'd like to see some improvements in changing a player's ranking. It takes a lot of time to..."

I probably won't be using it to answer such open ended questions normally, but it may be a good thing to add nevertheless.

I am not receiving any pop up window when I sign in.

Do you have a popup blocker? Also, make sure you visit the Home page for Beta - that's where it is triggered.

I added a work-around that will detect if the person has a pop-up blocker, and give them a link to the message/poll in that case.

I made a few small changes to this. I'll reset everyone's answers so you can see it again.

You should now see a link directly below Welcome! that says "Click here for an important message". Can you see if it works?

pop up

I would suggest having it on every screen, as I tend to link to the results page and rarely go to the home page. Make it like the trade offer, which pops up on more than one screen.

I could probably add it to a few more screens - particularly ones that are pretty quick already. Maybe the lineup pages?

Thpught that this was a very effective tool, but agree use only in special circumstances.... but worthwhile, definately.

My pop-up blocker ate it, but my blocker loads the page in a hidden window so pages that try to detect pop-up blockers can't detect it. You may want to always add the "important message" link....

I don't know if you changed something, but your popup gets past my blocker now.

I made a change at one point - but it shouldn't affect that.

I did make a change which displays the link in Red everytime as someone had suggested.
