New MWL HOF Rules
January 15, 2010 at 01:10AM View BBCode
Since there has been a need for the HOF to be updated for a while, I decided to step into the gap.
As for the rules, each manager in the league gets one ballot and should simply vote "yes" or "no" for each player on it. Managers can simply cut and paste the names from the official ballot, paste the list in a reply to the official thread, and indicate their "yes"/"no" votes there. Moreover, if a manager does not want his votes to be public he can simply send me a U2U message and his votes will be tallied privately. If a manager does not indicate "yes" or "no" on one or more players on his ballot, each missing vote will be considered a "no" vote.
In order to be inducted, a player will need to have a yes vote on 75% of the ballots submitted (no rounding up). Once a player falls below 40% (no rounding up), he is off future ballots. Also, once a player has had five unsuccessful chances he is off the next ballot.
In each voting cycle coaches can write-in candidates that they think should be included, even those who played earlier than the final date on the official ballot. (Thus, if a ballot has the dates 1961-1963, then only players who retired in 1963 or before can be written-in.) When a player is written-in he will automatically be included on the next ballot and is given one "yes" vote for the current ballot. However, in order for a player who has used all of five of his chances to be re-included on a future ballot, he needs to be written-in and that write-in vote needs to be seconded by another owner.
At least eight complete ballots need to be submitted for a HOF class to be official. Once eight ballots have been received, the voting will remain open for at least 24 more hours, after which it will be closed at the earliest convenience.

Two things:
1. Could someone sticky this thread in place of the old HOF rules thread?
2. If there are no objections, expect the first ballot to be posted within the next week (maybe even really soon).

Looks good, my only suggestion is to have the votes sent via u2u rather than posted in the thread.
I'm the HOF commish in 2 other leagues and I found with message board voting problems of two sorts arise:
1) Complaints about votes, the "How can you vote for Smith and not vote for Jones ?" type of thing that can be divisive.
2) Owners being swayed by the voting of others
I set up a folder in my u2u for each league, transfer the ballots in and then add them up.
Just a thought.

I don't know. I kind of like the public vote idea. It means that you have to be accountable for you votes (so not vendetta voting).
What do others think?

I think you should be able to vote either publicly -OR- privately. If an owner chooses to u2u versus league message board...then that should be fine too.

I agree with Mike. Allow u2u or message board votes. Most of the team I enjoy a spirited discussion about the merits/demerits of different players. (Except that Shep is dillusional about a particular counting stat "hits" and thinks it is important.)

only one 200+ hit season with decent health (B-). Seems like his accumulative hits were because of his longevity (18 full seasons + 2 shortened seasons). Less than 200 SB's....only 204 HR's...only surpassed .300avg 4 times in his career....and a career .288 hitter.
I wouldn't say he 'screams' HOF. I, personally, would consider him but most likely wouldn't vote for him. It would depend on the strength of the HOF class i guess. He's definitely not 'a shoe-in' IMO.

LOL.
U2U ballot casting will be fine if a manager so chooses. I'll update the rules to indicate this change.

No...we're not brothers actually. And I was giving my opinion from a neutral viewpoint. I was just giving my honest opinion on a guy you said 'SCREAMS' HOF. I just don't think he 'screams' HOF. I think he might have a shot of being a HOF'er but I wouldn't bet the house on it. Simple as that. Difference of opinion man...that's all. One dog goes this way...one dog goes the other. I also said, for me, it would depend on the HOF class at the time. I typically base my vote on 'WHAT I FEEL' is HOF deserving. I've voted for MANY players that never made it to the HOF because other owners had a different viewpoint. I can argue my requirements/viewpoints til' I turn blue in the face but it doesn't matter, they will vote for whoever THEY feel should be in. This is the reason why there is a vote and not just 1 owner determining 'who' goes in. Everybody's basis is different.
capiche?
BFF? Lol...please don't drag me into this SHEP. You're starting to use words that I don't appreciate and are uncalled for. This was between you and Hammy...I have nothing to do with EITHER one of you. You linked a player card on OUR message board...and I commented from a NEUTRAL standpoint. Get over it.

Shep and I have edited the thread to eliminate those comments of ours that were not relevant to the point at hand. My apologies to Shep for bringing up that particular issue and to the league for bringing it here.
Peace all.

Can we make this thread stickied instead of the old HOF rules thread?
Thanks!
