New Minor League IC System - System 4

October 16, 2009 at 11:40PM View BBCode

I've added a new minor league IC System, number 4.

This system will have 10 ICs per game, but you will be penalized for having less than 25 players on your minor league roster. This will be very similar to System 3, just with a bigger minor league roster.

I've setup beta to use this system.

If you have any ideas on other possible systems, let me know. They are really easy to setup with the framework I built.

Do you still have 20 CP?

How do you expect this to alter the improves?

It would certainly tend to ensure that anyone under 22 will get placed on a roster somewhere in the league, even the normally ignored guys at the back of a draft.

No, there is no CPs. It is the same as system 3 basically, just with a bigger minor league system.

So the premise is to expand overall rosters to 50 with 25 minimum in the minors ?

That is right.

Very cool, though a lot of old school players will want to burn it at the stake.

Its basically the same as System 3, just with more players in the minors. If you didn't like System 3, you certainly won't like system 4.

There is a theory that you, Tyson, never expected system 3 to be used:

The theory goes you made it up as a joke assuming no self respecting SIM player would want it and were shocked when many leagues adapted it.

I didn't expect it to be as popular as it has been. Basically, once I rewrote the code to allow for a 2nd improvement system (Systems 1 and 2), it made it really easy to add more systems. System 4 took less than an hour to put in. I'll definitely spend more time dealing with league votes about whether to adopt that system than I did programming it :)

I think the most desired change to the IC system among people in my leagues would be to formalize the trading of CPs. Currently we allow for trading of CPs but the tracking of it is manual. If you could allow for CPs to be traded (in batches of 5 ideally) between teams that would be great. It is very annoying to track the CPs and players moving around (usually done with a long running league message board topic).

Beta is still showing Coaching points as of April 1st, shouldn't these be gone ?

Could this be stretched even further as such:

Install Position Training to be the position the player is expected to play in the minors. Thus every player must be indicated (default is their natural position which would have no effect, all others would earn ICs as in the current system). ABE would require one position player at every position, as well as 5 starting pitchers (default as the 5 pitchers with the highest endurance?).

Maybe then increase endurance chances on the 5 SPs, and the relievers would be more concentrated on refining their stuff. No idea how doable the pitching part is.

This would effectively create a minor league team, which increases the realism and adds the benefit of a little more strategy.

That would be a bigger change that the one I just put in, but not a huge project. Put it on ideascale - if there is a lot of interest, I'll consider it.

Maybe you would do 3 position change conversion opps per team per game.

This could be independent of the minor ic system you have, meaning it could be turned on/off with any of the 4 current Improvement systems.

Just to understand how this system works, ABE just randomly selects from the minor league roster for each IC? So someone could get all 10 IC's if ABE likes the player that much :D

One other thing, Coach ABE is complaining that about having CP on minor league players over 23 with this system.

Minor League Prospect Age C- It is generally unwise to put Coach Points on minor league players older than 23 years old. You should promote these players if they are legitimate prospects and redistibute your Coach Points to younger players.

Yes, that is how it works. It is just like system 3 except 10 ICs instead of 6.

I'll look into the coach abe thing.

Thanks,

Here is what I do not like about the new IC System...

  • I have 25 players in the minors, 25 in the majors.
  • The amateur draft runs. Now I have 25 in majors and 30 in minors.
  • I cannot do ANYTHING until I drop 5 players in my minors even though I have major league players I want to waive.
  • I waive 5 minor league players, adjust my major league roster. Now I have 25 players in majors and 20 players in minors.
  • I want my waived minor league players back on my roster so I place a claim on them but have to wait until they clear waivers. In the mean time I may lose them if someone places a claim on them.Is there any way around this dilemma? I tried waiving the major league players from the Promote/Demote menu option, but cannot do anything since I have 55 players!

I think system 4 is going to need to allow teams to carry more than 50 players in order to avoid a bunch of hassles.

I'd like a Minor League System where you could flag one point that is a guaranteed 50% for an IC. That is the only point that gets assigned. The rest are all randomized among the rest of the Minor leaguers.

Casey - I'll look into that issue, you should be able to waive from the majors even if you have more than 50.

Tworoosters - we will need to do some work here. Most of this code has gone untested because people rarely carry more than 50 players, even though this limit has always existed.

khazim - you should add that idea to ideascale: http://simdynasty.ideascale.com

Casey - I just ran a test and it let me waive from the majors with 30 players. Can you let me know next season if you see this problem again so I can look into it?

  • The same thing happened again... I cannot promote/demote any players unless I drop to 50 total players first.

Ok, that makes sense though. You shouldn't be able to promote/demote until you get to 50.

So, in essence, IC System 4 is really only supporting 20 minor players because, after the draft, an owner has to drop 5 players to be able to promote/demote players and/or adjust one's lineup/pitching rotation.

For example, after the latest draft, the Seattle Sounders have 3 older pitchers in the majors who CANNOT be waived through the Promote/Waive screen or demoted through the Depth Chart until the minor league roster is pared down to 25 or fewer players.

Again, under IC System 4, teams have to waive 5 players from their MINORS before they can adjust their rosters.

You should be able to waive them, but not demote them. Are you unable to waive them?
