Player name changes:
*A player's given name can be changed once in 1950. After 1950, name changes are allowed only until the player plays his first game in the majors.
*Owners may not add nicknames in "alias" between Abe's given names (no quotation marks in names).
*Let's keep the renames to two words, however stuff like De La, el, and Le are not considered part of the two names.
*The Bundy Rule: Has been removed.
*While names can be completely fictional (fitting into the above parameters), any combinations of first and last names found in the Baseball-reference database are acceptable as long as they are not offensive.
*We like to have fun, if you have a problem with that, well, this isn't a league for you.
*Penalties for violating the naming rule:
1st offense -- warning
2nd offense -- stronger warning
3rd offense -- expulsion from the league
Any attempt to test the spirit or intent of these rules will be treated as a direct violation of these rules.
*Decisions by the commissioner(s) will be considered final.
Team Name changes:
Choose wisely. Once the league plays it's 1st game , no team name changes are allowed. Replacement owners may change the team name once, immediately upon taking over the team.
Trading CP's
You may NOT trade CPs, it isn't realistic.
Draft pick trades:
Draft pick trades are allowed 3 seasons in advance. In 1950, for example, the next 3 drafts will be 1951, 52, 53. 1954 and beyond are not allowed.
Catchers: You must carry two catchers at the ML level and you must start a catcher at catcher. For this purpose, a player must be rated at least 90% as ALT POS (C) on their player card.
Pitchers:
The amateur draft pool will be populated on the night August 1 of league play
The amateur draft will not be governed by identical draft settings, each owner will have full control over his/her own team.
Waiver wire:
Claims of undrafted players are limited to one pick per team for the first 12 hours (real time) after each draft. If more than one player is claimed, only the first will be retained, the others will be returned to the free agent pool.
Options:
The options rule, as built into the game, will be in effect at all times. There are no provisions for teams to 'set their roster' before the 1st season starts.
A trade deadline of September 1 (game 132) will be enforced in order for the player(s) to be eligible for post-season play. Trades involving only draft picks are allowed any time. If a playoff team has acquired a player after the deadline, they will asked to place the player on rest for the duration of the playoffs.
Anti-tanking:
110 Loss Penalty. At 110 losses your team will not be eligible for the Top 2 picks of the amatuer draft.
I'd like to think this league will draw quality owners that do not need to tank in order to have fun. If tanking becomes an issue, it will be brought up for discussion and new rules will be voted on by the owners.
Playoff rules:
You may make changes to your line-up between games.
Except in the event of an injury, you may NOT move players up and down between Farm & the Majors during the playoffs.
Inactivity:
Owners who are inactive for a period of more than 14 RL days without a prior posting on the league board or a message to the league commish may be replaced without compensation. Activity will be determined by the "Last Active" date on the league info page.
Above all -- please remember that this is a game. Any differences that arise can be handled in a civil manner. Name calling, hostility, rudeness and swearing will not be tolerated.

how does draft order work. I am new in startup. Is it randomly decided who picks first?

It is random for each position. You may pick 10th for SP, 3rd for LF, etc.

I'm with you. I'm about 1 spot off a good player in 4 different positions. This group of players is weak with a capital 'W'. But hey there are surely a few HOF, I'm just not going to get many.

From now on (2/4/15) Bundy must be referred to as Peggy in all league communications. Anyone caught breaking the rule will be disciplined.
1st Offense will just be a warning.
2nd Offense will be the forfeiture of a 5th Round draft pick.
3rd Offense you will receive a pic in your inbox of Ryan G's 'junk'.
4th Offense and Nards will come to your house and perform what is now know as the 'Shittsburgh'. Better keep that plumber on speed dial and pray it's not a Sunday or you'll be paying triple time.
5th Offense Pierzynski will sit on your face and you will learn first hand how he came to be known as 'Dirty Harry'.
And if the 'Dirty Harry' doesn't scare you straight (alright, maybe straight is a poor word choice for this bunch), BJ will perform his namesake on Frostee in your living room in front of your whole family. Regardless of their age.
Just to be clear, the word Bundy is NO LONGER to be used on the message board or in league correspondences, unless of course it is preceded by the word Peggy, as in Peggy Bundy. Or maybe even Mrs. Bundy, but we can discuss that at a later date.
