The Baltimore Privateers are voting with the understanding that SS Matrim Cauthon may very well be included in this list next year... and thus representing the first true chance at Baltimore representation in the Hall.
YES to Brandon. He has numbers very similar to the best MLB 2B of all time in my opinion, Ryne Sandberg. Brandon's are actually slightly better when you consider he played nearly 300 games fewer than Ryno. We vote in his favor for that alone (since there were no defensive stats tracked during his time in the league).
We still vote NO to Dunlop. He only has HOF considerable stats in terms of HR. The only major milestone he reached was 400 HR. He barely reached 2000 hits, has a dismal OBP for HoF considerations, and 1300 RBI do not impress me when you hit over 400 HR, not for a 1B that's typically supposed to be a run producer. Pick up 200 more RBI and we'll talk.
We vote YES to Fahr. He did what Dunlop failed to do. Nearly 450 HR, over 1700 RBI, and 2500 hits. All major milestones and beyond. He also stole nearly twice as many bases as Dunlop.
We vote YES to Falkenborg. He didn't have a bad season until he was moved from the rotation to the bullpen in his final season. He did just miss the major milestone of 250 wins (241), but his 3.22 ERA and 1.16 WHIP through nearly 4000 IP are quite considerable.
We vote NO on McAuliffe. While his HR numbers are impressive, he has the same issues as Dunlop... nothing else to back it up. He was also, at best, a mediocre fielder at a fairly critical defensive 3B position.
We vote NO on Mendoza. Had the injuries not slowed him down (he was once on pace for the all-time SB record until the injuries piled up), he would be a no-brainer. Unfortunately, ranking 6th currently (with 4 players still active and on pace to pass him) in SB alone does not a HoFer make.
We vote NO on Out. For being the closer on one of the most dominant TRL teams... he falls far short of the expectations of a HoF closer. Our former closer sits just 6 behind him in saves... and this is the worst franchise overall in the TRL to date.
We vote YES on Phillippe. This is the kind of career you hope that 18 year-old C+ to B- reliever will develop into.... enough said.
We still vote NO on Robert. He wasn't good enough 2 years ago or last year... he's still not good enough this year. However, he is very borderline... and this vote can change.
We vote NO on Ryan. While he has more wins in about the same number of innings and starts as Robert, he does have a higher ERA and WHIP. For now, our vote is no... but Ryan is another borderliner that the vote could change on.
We vote YES on Bingo Smith. He is #2 in all time SB, and may not be passed by anyone any time soon. Would like to see his Runs total a bit higher, but the fact that he carried an excellent .380 OBP to go with his 547 SB shows he was on a team where he was either misused (should have been the leadoff man in front of the run producers) or the team had other offensive issues in terms of driving in runs.
We vote NO on Robert John Smith. He has less than an .800 OPS... and only his SB total of 491 as any sort of milestone. Like Mendoza, fewer than 500 SB alone does not a HoFer make.
We vote NO on Stansbury. Good player, but only good.
We vote NO on Swan this year. It's tough to vote no for a guy with 1500+ RBI and 900 career XBH, but he does have an OPS well below .800.

In protest of everyone not voting for Dick McAuliffe, I only vote yes for Dick McAuliffe.
Detroit had a solid 5 year stretch of being one of, if not, the top team. McAuliffe, Brinkman and Horton were a "Murderers Row" that made it happen. And, if I recall correctly, he hit a walkoff HR that provided one of our championships.
Not to mention that in his 17 year career he at some point started at 2B, 3B & SS and never commited more than 10 errors in a season.
His career stats are good, but certainly boarderline for the Hall. But, when you combine his stats with the effect he had on helping win championships, he should be a "shoe in."

McAuliffe was a terrible SS and made exactly 100 (of his 1437) starts at the position. He was an average, and barely so, 2B... and a mediocre 3B. His defensive skills do not tip any scales toward him being HoF material. If anything, they tip the scales in the other direction.
His playoff line of .281/.341/.406/.749 5 HR, 24 RBI, 23 R, in 48 games and 192 AB is far from impressive... and yet now touted as a primary reason he should go into the HoF. Yes, he hit a walk-off HR in the 1970 WS, but he also put together a .158 effort in the 1974 WS that was a primary reason for Detroit's loss. On one hand, he was a WS MVP... on the other... a WS LEAST valuable player. I'm sorry, you can't tout his effort in 70 without mentioning his wretched attempt to play in 74... as well as his other postseason short comings.
It's his inconsistency that brings him down, Joe. If he were more consistent, he would have had more than 3 100-RBI seasons and an OPS in the .850 range. He would have also had more strong postseason efforts than just the first two trips in 1970-71. After 1971, he may as well not gone along for the ride since he was pretty much a nonfactor in 72-73 and a detrement in 74.
Joe, you had one of the greatest players in TRL history with Horton get into the HoF last year. If Brinkman sticks around another 3 years (this season included) he will most likely get in. Northrup and McLain will both most likely get the call as well if they continue performing as they have thus far for another 5 years or so. This "protest vote" is a bit ridiculous... especially when you have Fahr and Philippe here as two of the greatest overall players in TRL history. If this is the route you wish to take, that's fine. Just remember that you have other players that will eventually come up for a vote. Perhaps we'll all decide to put in "protest votes"... or non-votes... when it's their turn.
