OffSeason Declines

January 20, 2009 at 11:03PM View BBCode

I have added two changes to the OffSeason code.

Declines will now be more random than before. Previously, players pretty much declined by the same amount each offseason. Now, this will be randomly determined.

Also, I have updated the improvement code to reflect this in the improvement report.

Neither of these has been tested, let me know if you see any issues.

Thanks,
Tyson

I welcome this change however my team is so young I'll have little luck testing it.

I like this change too. Unlike Dwight, I have a few older players on the roster from which to watch this.

Are the declines related to anything like health or completely random? (I'd like to see low-health players decline slightly faster and high-health slightly slower.)

They are completely random.

I don't know how we missed this but this has never worked in beta as far as I can tell.

I'm running trial 5 up to the offseason to see what the code is doing exactly. I may run the offseason multiple times and make a mess of that league to get a handle on this problem.

Sorry for not catching that sooner.

maybe something related to this but my older pitchers(34 plus years old) have gotten 3 to 5 improves in last couple of years while before that 1 was most I had seen. This was in regular beta. Also I just noticed trial5's amateur draft isn't populated is this related to running through season quicker than normal.

In the last year, I added logic to make mediocre pitchers improve more. Are these B/B+ type pitchers?

Yeah, I didn't give enough time to populate the amateur Draftees. Let me do that now. Please look the other way while I finagle the league date.

Ok, I've been using the old trial leagues to run further tests and it looks like it works now.

I'm going to let us test this for a couple months before moving the changes back to the main site.

My older pitchers have also been getting 2-3 improvements. This last offseason, the 3 pitchers of mine that were affected were all B+ pitchers who fell to B, generally speaking, so 'mediocre' but all had been A- in previous years, so they were hardly mediocre pitchers in the past.

Essentially, it means a once very good pitcher hits the end of his playing career, and thus becomes mediocre, but gains some extra improvements because he had already fallen to the mediocre range.

Declines are showing on Beta for the OS of 2030.

One of my pitchers went -19 (-4 endurance, -5 control and -10 velocity) while another went -10 (-2/-4/-4) both in first year of decline so I'd say the random part is working, although -19 in first year of declines is brutal and will just give people like bundy more things to complain about

I have a -10 and -9 for my pitchers and a Total of -6/454.
Do older players have the chance to decline more or average more decline or is it the same for everyone at OS 34?
For batters, my OS 36 SS was -22 and my OS 35 was -19.

Can you give more details on how the randomness works so I can look if someone doesn't look quite correct? I'm guessing is one of these ways:
1. Everyone is the same random decline range from -1 to -10 (making up numbers) per catagory.
2. The Range is based on age (and/or health) so it is -1 to -10 + (34 - OS).
3. Or the range slides with range -1 + (34 - OS) to -10 + (34 - OS)
4. Some other way

The same logic is used for all players 34 and older.

For batters, speed can decline from 0 to 10. Power is from 0 to 7. Contact, Health, and Defense are from 0 to 4.

For pitchers, velocity goes from 0 to 9. Control 0 to 5. Endurance, Defense, Health from 0 to 4.

If a pitcher is used too much or too little, he loses 2-3 points.

Same goes for batters that aren't everyday players.
