Trial League: Schedule and Guidelines
January 16, 2009 at 08:23PM View BBCode
I'm not going to create a separate forum for Trial leagues yet. I'm going going to pre-pend with Trial League for now.
If you see any issues, please post them in Beta Issues & Suggestions - do NOT post them on the main board.
First things first, the schedule. I've set all this up to happen automatically, so let's see if it works.
Here is the order of events:
1) The first person signs up for the league
2) The initial draftees are populated
3) The league fills with 16 owners
4) The Initial Draft will run at 4AM the 2nd night after the league fills. So if the league fills today, it wouldn't run at 4AM, but the next night at 4AM. This gives people time to set draft prefs.
5) We pause for a full day after the draft
6) Games start up with game #82
I have games running at 6,7,11AM,3,8,10PM for now. This is just to go a bit faster for testing. I'll likely sim through the seasons faster once I am ready.
The playoffs will run from 7AM to 4PM, over 2 days.
The offseason will run at 4AM, Draft at 10AM, and the new season should start the next day.
When the league reaches September 1st, Amateur Draftees will appear. In addition, you should see a renewal notice around September 1st of the 1952 season - this will ask whether you want to stay in the league for another go around.
I think that is about it for now. Any comments/questions?

Two questions/concerns, largely to do with how this will be received by newcomers:
1. Starting at game 82 might be confusing (we get at least one post every season asking about this, don't we?). Is this necessary for the game code to make other events happen at the right time? Or is it feasible to have things end at 81, rather than begin at 82?
2. You've got a 4 AM offseason and a 10 AM draft. Are these the same AM? Sounds a bit compressed for inexperienced players. Maybe you're smooshing them together for testing purposes; I don't know. Either way, it IS better than single-season players get now, so ...

1. It is a good point. I'm not sure if ending at game 81 is any better. Let me think about this.
2. I'll have to work on the times. In general, it will be something like this. But maybe the Amateur Draft would run that night instead of 10AM. Something like 7 or 8PM.

Just to clarify ...
Trial3 draft was populated today, but I don't know what time.
If it was after 4 a.m., then the draft will run Thursday at 4 a.m. If it was before 4 a.m., then the draft will run Wednesday at 4 a.m.
Anyone know for certain?

I ran these by hand to test, and ran the draft also.
If we could get a few more to signup for trial4, I can test that as well.
Thanks,
Tyson

Admin;
I just started playing on 01/17/09 in Johnny Oates league.I saw where you wanted sign-ups for trial league.I am trail league #4.I think a 81 game season is good for new players and keeps older/losing players interested.I see where you want to start with game 82 and would be confusing to new player why not have first half and 2nd half seasons. Then have playoff.

Hi - this is a beta testing league, the main thing we are testing is the transition points - signups, drafts, league wind-down, etc. If something goes wrong, I delete the league typically - so don't get too attached. It's meant to be a testing grounds.

I guess what I am saying is that the beta league is not a good place for new owners to the site. You're welcome to stay, but really I didn't expect newer owners to signup.
