List of changes for next season

October 28, 2008 at 04:44PM View BBCode

Here is the list of changes coming on November 12th around 11AM. These will be in effect immediately at that time.

If you have any questions or comments about these changes, please post in this thread:

If you have any suggestions based on these changes, please start a new thread in Suggest Enhancements so that the idea doesn't get lost in the shuffle.

- Might as well start with the biggie. Created a new batter improvement system which decouples the link between at bats, health, and Improvement chances. Players will now earn ICs for achieving different targets in a game. The "base" ICs he will earn before Mentoring are: 0.1 ICs for being on the roster, 0.075 for starting the game, 0.075 for batting at least once, 0.075 for playing at least 6 defensive innings, 0.075 for finishing the game. In addition, these will be adjusted for player health so that a player with poor health will get slightly more ICs. The goal is for a batter who plays every game to receive 64.8 ICs, before mentoring. We don't actually use health for this calculation, but look at games started verses games the team has played. So platoon guys and bench starters will get ICs as if they are F health (assuming they start less than 120 games per season).

Because of this, there is no incentive to bat guys at the top of the lineup to get more ICs. This could make teams a bit more competitive while they are rebuilding. This will also give bench players many more Improvement chances.

All leagues will use this system by default (called System 3 - someone needs to help me name these things :) ). The current system will be called System 2. System 1 is a place holder for a future enhancement. All Dynasty and Single Season will use System 3. If a Speed or Private league wishes to stay with System 2, they can do that by getting 9 public votes in favor of staying.

- Related to this, there are a few new fields on the Player card to track games started, injured games per season, and games active. We had them up for beta testing and I'm inclined to leave them for you all to see.

- Made some changes to the waiver wire page so you can filter by position, and also added client side sorting so that you can sort more quickly. This allows sorting by Mentor grade.

- Fixed the Manager javascript menus when using Simple manager mode to hide the advanced option.

- The intended adjustment for catcher health introduced last time around didn't quite work as advertised. We have adjusted this formula so that catchers can play in 1 less consecutive game. This should make the range of games played per season more realistic. Note that because of the new Batter IC system, catchers will start to see more ICs.

- The player card display has been adjusted for very old and for retired players.

- Added a warning message to the lineup pages if you try to leave without saving the changes.

- Removed the null message from the trade desk.

- Added a private notes area where you can keep notes about your team.

- Fixed the city display for LA-NL and LA-AL on the boxscore page. Also, removed fielding stats for mobile viewing.

A few updates...

We had to remove the League Leader filter for now, it isn't quite working yet. Look for it in January.

We have also added the following

- Added validation on the Rotation & Bullpen page

- Runners will no longer try for a Sacrifice fly when trailing by more than 1 run in the 9th inning or later.

- Fixed a bug in the Improvement area of the boxscore, where you would see something like "Too few minors, missed Improvement chance improves in speed." This will now simply say, "Too few minors, missed Improvement chance"

- Early in the season, players who had no assists, putouts, or erros but did have a minus play were missing from Individual Stats - Fielding. This has been corrected.

- Fixed the team Range Factor calculation on the Individual Stats page.

- Made an adjustment to the Waiver Wire ICs so that players who spent time in the minors during that season will earn less WW ICs.

One other area that we made some changes to is Defensive errors. This was omitted from my personal change log by accident, we have been beta testing it for a few seasons now.

1B will now have a slight chance (about 2 in 1000 chance on average) of making an error on fielding a throw from another infielder.

Catchers will be more prone to errors (about twice as many errors), and more prone to making a bad throw during a steal attempt as these numbers were too low.

SS and 3B will be generally more prone to make errors (about twice as many).

1B will be about 1.5 times more prone to errors.

I have left P, 2B, and OF alone as these seemed to be about right. There is a discrepancy with pitchers, but it is due to us not having errors on pickoff attempts.

These adjustments will put us inline with the numbers you see in MLB.
