Ever since the 20 inning game in Pittsburgh 6 nights ago, the Cubs had lost 5 straight, some in heartbreaking... just a bit too late in the comeback... fashion. Tonight, however, Molson decided to carry the team on his shoulders and break the 5-game slump. Molson, pushed up to the 5th spot in the lineup moments before the game began, managed 4 hits in 6 at bats. 3 of those hits were homeruns. The fourth? An RBI single.
In the first inning, Molson drove in Oalie Grandahd with a single, giving the Cubs a 2-0 lead. With the team trailing 5-3 in the 5th, Molson made it a bit closer with a solo shot to right field. In the 6th, Molson would send a 2-run shot to left field driving in Joseph Seagram to give the Cubs a 6-5 lead. Anheuser Busch would then greet New York reliever Gerewt Gosherwin with a blast to left field...completing the back-to-back combo which gave the Cubs a 2-run lead. To put the game away, Molson connected with a grand slam in the top of the ninth... driving in Jager Meister, Don Fernando and Oalie Grandahd. This blast gave the Cubs a 13-5 lead...which would end in a 13-7 victory for the team.
On the night, Molson drove in 8 of the team's 13 runs, nearly doubling his RBI total for the year to date and moving into the team's lead in that category with 19.
