Slight Redesign

December 10, 2007 at 08:59PM View BBCode

You may have caught a thread a few months back where I discussed adding a 2nd server and simultaneous redesigning the site so that we could put a larger banner ad on the site to pay for the 2nd server.

We'll be playing around with a few designs in the next couple days on beta with a larger banner ad. Would appreciate any feedback.

I think it is noticeable without being obtrusive.

Fine by me.

It looks good. The only ads that a little incorrect are the google ads that have no border. In those ad's there is a lot of white space because it looks like it is the old frame size in the new frame space.

I like the new ads and see no problems with my screen because of them.

The ads I dislike the most are the ones that flash a lot -- it is annoying to have something flashing when you are trying to concentrate on another part of the screen.

These new ads seem crisp and not intrusive.

Shaheen - if you see that again can you do a screen capture and show us what it looks like?

The way these work is that the ad networks are chained together. First you will see ads from Network 1. Once network 1 is tired of you not clicking their ads, you will see Network 2. Etc. One of the networks in the chain shows smaller ads, so that's the one I'm trying to see.

Thanks for the feedback all.

I havn't seen a google ad in the wrong size box lately, but this is the same type of thing. The ad is a banner ad for the smaller size box (the size of the bottom frame and the old banner size) but it is being put into the new size banner area. The google ads look worse because it has no frame, non-animated and is mostly white space text.
I don't know if it is something that you can control, or if the ad's from server 1 are just assumed to be a certain size and they are giving you the wrong size banner.
I have also see this same banner scaled to fit into the large box but I have not seen a scaled google ads banner.

Look at the Game#'s in the above post. I was just about to post about this problem, and the problem is seen easily in the above post with games 91, 93, 95, and 98 being shown twice, and other games missing.

If I go to the boxscore page it will show the boxscore for game 93 (id 4993950) correctly. If I click next game it will play the same boxscore over again (with the same id).
If I go to the previous game, it tries to display boxscore id 0 and gets an SQLState error.

SQLState: S1000 Message: Illegal operation on empty result set. Query: select * from boxscore, schedule, league, team, city where team_active = 1 and boxscore_schedule_id = schedule_id and boxscore_league_id = league_id and team_league_id = league_id and team_city_id = city_id and city_id = schedule_away and boxscore_id = 0

Starting from game 95 (boxscoreid=4993972) does the same thing. This is all from the St. Louis team.

We have this problem site wide, duplicate games. Per usual, I'm not going to bother fixing it in beta.

I'll look into the ad stuff tomorrow, I'm seeing it occasionally myself, but other times it looks alright.

Game 101 seems to just played correctly with no duplicate. It also can go back correctly to game 100.
