Trade advice in the Don Newcombe league

Hey, all...

Going through some changes on my team. Not good enough to win it, not bad enough to get great picks. Trying to retool on the fly.

Just dumped a A- , 30 year-old starting pitcher. Now looking at this deal...

Hughie Warriner

and my 1st round pick in 1956 (We're in 1954)

for

Rod Renteria

and K.C.'s 2nd round pick in 1956

Kansas City's roster

We've talked back and forth, so this pretty much the deal on the table for the both of us.

I like the deal
BUT, if you're not careful, that 1956 1st rounder will be number 1 overall. If thats the case, then no I don't like it. You have 3 older pitchers that will be retired or useless in 1955 with no replacements in line other than Rod Renterria. And if you don't plug in quality players at the 2B & LF holes, I can envision your team at the bottom of the standings in 1955.
If you make the deal, then don't stop there. Make more trades to fill the holes or you will be handing over the #1 pick which could possibly be better than the former #1 Renteria.

Yeah... great point. I dealt some 1st round picks when the team was battling for the play-offs with the thought to keep my picks in '55 and '56 as I'd probably be rebuilding. But, a recent strain of bad draft classes in many leagues has me just wanting to get a known commodity like Renteria. Ooo... choices.

Robb Fariss could fill the LF hole in 55. That only leaves a couple of holes to patch to stay out of the cellar.

Ah, Fariss, my lil' 3rd rounder that could.
