I am in my second season ever in SD and worried that the draft choices aren't going to pan out for a player of Emerson quality. I'm thinking I could always trade after the draft for prospects instead of taking the draft picks.

I wouldn't do it. No one in this class looks better than Emerson. Picks after the first round need CP's to mean anything and they won't mean anything until five years from now. I'd focus more on getting some young pitching. I don't think Boone would fall to the 5th pick so it isn't worth your best hitter under 30.

The guy who offered you this deal thinks he sees "STUPID" tatooed in big red letters on your forehead.
Seriously, unless you're talking the #1 overall pick, this is a crap offer. And in this draft pool, not even the #1 overall pick is worth anything close to Emerson.
Also, picking up 3 extra picks in the same draft is a sucker trade, unless you've traded away all your picks. Those picks need CP's to develop, and you only have 15 to go around. Also, until you've seen the draft pool, a #3 pick is pretty much worthless. Maybe it's filler to balance out a trade or something, but nothing more until the draft class is out. Most of the time, 3rd rounders are useless. There are exceptions, but when you're trading a player the caliber of Emerson, you can't count on getting anything out of a #3 pick.

i would trade him for gerken if i were you but i think ill keep my hands on that pick, this trade however i would decline. you already have good minor league prospects and you are about to get hosed in the os with your staff retiring in mass so i would look to get younger sp's for emerson, since he probably wont be around when you are good again

This is the quote of the year!!
Seriously though, this is a big time decline. The draft class is weak and as Cardinalfarm says, you need to rejuvinate your staff. Unfortunatley he has no young pitching for you to go after in return for Emerson.
Besides, I just checked his depth chart and apperentley someone else had STUPID tatooed to their forehead, and traded him a B+/A+ 29 yo SP for those same picks. What a rip job.
I might even shop Emerson for a couple of good pitching prospects if I were you.

Yeah, you can use Gerken a lot, especially with the age in your rotation. I still don't think it's the right value. I should trade you Hal Lee for him. I'm not sure if I can do that myself, though.

Yeah, my pitching is going to be decimated. Time to start building, but I have two ace starting pitchers and a great closer, all just over 30.
