;) Young Oral Stelmazek showed Cleveland fans a glimpse of why the Spiders obtained him as he blanked the potent Detroit line up for six innings scattering only six hits.:D.The Spiders threatened but missed some golden opportunities early on.:( In the first Cliff Reilley whiffed with runners at second and third with two gone. And in the Spiders 6th, after Kearney grounds out, Henry Schilling doubles over the center fielders head k.o.'ing Breckenridge and bringing Joe Holden out of the pen for the Tigs. Its "deja vous" all over again as holden plunks hot hitting Carl Hamelin on the wrist with a pitch and in a repeat of yesterdays bruhaha both dugouts empty:o. but order is soon restored. Paul molitor hits into a double play killing the rally. That twice in two days fans that when the Spides are threatening the Tigres hurler beans a good hitter. Is this an accident? With a scoreless tie going into the 7th, the Tigs juice the bags on a Carpenter single, an out, a passed ball on Connie Martin sending Carpenter to second and a walk to Cedric Wheeler pinch-hitting for Joe Holden. After Ladd grouds into a force play, another damn George, this time Wilson plays long ball, scoring Carpenter and Ladd in front of him and its a 3-0 Tigres lead.:(. It stays that way until the eighth when Henry Schilling goes deep for the Spides to make it 3-1 Detroit. Closer Art Houtteman is brought in to face the Tigs in the top of the ninth and after getting Carpenter to ground out another damn George Austin this time, singles. Floyd Stock pinch hits and grounds out but Austin goes to second on the play. Jim Ladd singles scoring Austin and Ladd romps home on a two base throwing error by Jack Deal ( hurry back Pearl Combs!). Moraga flies out ot end tshe inning but the damage has been done 5-1 Tigres.:( Its the bottem of the ninth and do or die time for the Spiders.:obig Luke Kennedy comes in to close but these damn kids refuse to go quietly.:P. Paul Molitor works Kennedy for a walk and Cliff Reilley singles moving Molitor to third. Jack deal attempts to make up for his error by lining a single scoring scoring Molitor, 5-2 Detroit, the Spider faithful are beside themselves! The Tigres have seen enough and Roger Arnold relieves Kennedy.Mike Adams flies out deep to center field for the first out but Connie Martin dribbles a little swinging bunt down the third base line and the bags are juiced with two out. The Web is going wild, you can't hear yourself think. Hautteman is due up but mgr Luv Twobunt sends up veteran outfielder Dave Patterson to pinch hit and the fans are drooling:P the bases loaded, only one out and they can smell a Spider comeback.:D But such is not to be as on a full count pitch, after fouling off two more pitches, Dave hits a BB back through the box, its speared by Arnold who with the runners on the move throws to first to complete the twin killing and break the Spiders hearts once more.:( The tigs run onto the field and mob Arnold and the Spides are saddled with another gut-wrenching loss.:( But tomorrows another day and hopefully we will see the good guys salvage the final of this three game set.:DPages: 1
