Back to reality. Boston 9 Clev.4

The Spiders had high hopes that Dave Hoskins could replicate Don Mossi's sterling start of yesterday but it was not to be.The first two inningsw were scoreless as both hurlers looked good. In the third Cleveland hopes were on the rise as the Spiders touched up the bespectacled (Blinky) Batchelder on a walk to Naragon, a (Mule) Garrido single, and a beatiful sacrifice bunt by Hoskins to move along the runners and a hit by young Jack Deal playing at short in place of the injured (Merl The Pearl Combs, who unfortunately will be out 37 days with a ham-string tear) driving home the runs for a 2-0 Spiders lead and dreams of repeating yesterdays victory. But in the Boston third up jumped the devil! Jerry Pence fouled off a couple of pitsches and the umpire (Nestor Shylock) awarded him first on a pitch that if it did hit him, must have been visable only to the ump. Mgr. Luv ran screaming from the Spiders dugout and accused Shylock of being visually impaired in most colorful language. He was immdiately tossed by the ump to the great delight of the Beantown faithful who roared their approval. After order was restored Batchelder moved the runner along with a sac.,and (you guessed it) Ian "Ironman" Anderson brought him in with a single and the vaunted Boston "hit parade" was off and running.Billy Thompson singles. Williams singles and Mike ( Golden GreeK) Hronpolus puts one into orbit driving in three. The dazed and battered young Mossi finally fans Mabry on a pitch out of the strike zone but to add insult to injury Larry (Marimba) Marachel finishes off the kid by putting a 3-2 fastball into the cheap seats. Youthful Ed Reed comes on in relief and mercifully the inning ends. Its a six run explosion as once the big inning ruins the Spiders. 6-2 Boston. Reed seems to have good stuff as in the Boston fourth he walksPence but Batcholder bunts too hard into a twin killing. But with two out the Boston onslaught begins again. They score on singles by (will somebody stop this guy!) Ian Anderson, Billy Thompson, and the rbi hit by the Splendid splinter. 7-2 Boston. The outgunned but game Spiders try to battle back in the fifth as the kid Deal lines another rbi single driving home Nargon who had walked and moved to second on a ground ball out.7-3 Boston. Mike Cressand comes on to pitch in the fifth, gets Mabry, walks Marimba Marachel but gets heavy hitting Frank Neil to fly out. But hold on with two gone Pence single Marachel to third, lets the pitcher Batchelder get a hit and an rbi and of course who else but "Ironman" Anderson kills us again singling in Pence. Herb Score comes on in releif and stops the bleeding and with good stuff contains the Bostonian bashers the rest of the way. Our gallent Spiders seek to revive in the ninth as tey start a two out rally when Cliff Reilley gets a pinch-hit single, Art Richert singles, and rookie first-sacker Rabbit Baumgartner coaxes a walk , the bags are juiced a wild pitch brings one run home and after fouling off several tough pitches and running the count full , Al Smith whiffs. And thats all folks, just too much Boston power and too many youthful miscues by our Spides.:o I am glad we won't be seeing the Haymakers for a while, they just wear us out.:(
