New Feature - Trade Advice

July 14, 2006 at 09:34PM View BBCode

I added a new feature this afternoon. From the tradedesk, you will now get 3 options when a trade is proposed to you - Accept, Decline, or Advice. If you click on Advice, it will automatically create a post for you in this forum:

http://www.simdynasty.com/oldforum-viewforum.jsp?fid=421

And then forward you to that thread.

I'd appreciate any help the regulars can give in helping newer owners out with trade help in this new area.

You're about one day to late in KPL. Nice addition, though.

This will help newer owners considerably. Everyone prepare for an onslaught of " is this a good trade? " posts in the Q&A forum

Yeah, no kidding.

I love the idea, but wow this may get some nasty volume. :)

I added a popup that tells you what's about to happen and let's you click Cancel - should eliminate people who are like, hey what's that button do?

Also - if you can think of any other pertinent info you'd like to see in these posts, let me know.

Tyson,
I would find it EXTREMELY useful if the post indicated whether the league in question is a Single Season, Dynasty, or Private League.

This is especially useful in the context of responding to Single Season leagues, where age of players isn't particularly relevant. It also tempers the responses to some effect in Dynasty leagues, where trading for a 17-year-old prospect might be not just a 5-6 season but a 1.5 YEAR project, which affects some people's decisions. If you're going to list that it's a Private League, mentioning the game/day count might be useful as well (if it's not difficult to add).

I have added the league type to the post info.

I don't think there is currently a way to view another league's draft class, probably wouldn't be a bad enhancement though.

This is an excellent idea, the game just keeps getting better, thanks Tyson...

I have a related suggestion... I would love to see a link where one could look at mini-versions of the player cards (like you see on "trade desk", for example) of all players in either a proposed trade or a completed trade. For example, if a blockbuster 6 for 6 player deal is going down, I'd like to evaluate it all on one page, rather than 12 clicks and bouncing back around between the players....

Put it in suggest enhancements and provide as much detail as possible on what you'd like to see - it will get forgotten buried in this thread.

OK I thought this was a good idea but it seems a fairly overused feature as many players, some of whom I know have no need for the advice, are clicking on it.

I don't know, airs too many owners dirty laundry, when it could be the first of many initiations between the two teams, no trades ever finsh like they start, first initiation is just that, no need for another owner to be exposed. With that said I guess it would help newbies from making a mistake of accepting the first offer initiated. Is it an option to have or not have it in private leagues? I think owners in private leagues should have a vote internally whether the league wants to keep the trade advice on or off, it's all about options. I also agree with bart about it being overused. Thanks. 1313

Its a way to get newer owners used to using the message boards as well. A lot of people complain that some leagues aren't active enough for them - well this is a way to make all leagues more active.

I think people who don't really need advice will either stop using the feature, or quickly be ignored by those giving the advice.

Ok, based on your feedback I've divided this into 3 forums for future posts, by league type.

The forum ids are 423 (SS), 424 (Dynasty) and 425 (Private) for those that use the MyBoards feature.

Not sure how it can be overused, any owner could have done this with the questions and answers page anyway, it just makes it easier. I like the page and find myself addcited to it. Not just responding to those seeking advice but seeing some strategies that other owners use. The only issue I worry about is it does give owners a chance to see a potential deal and outbid the person seeking advice but that seems fairly realistic as well. And you can always choose not to seek advice and publicly announce the trade. All in all I think it's a really nice feature.
