Let's Introduce Ourselves (Again)
July 12, 2006 at 03:56AM View BBCode
Hey, guys. Due to attrition since 1950, seems like it's time for a new introduction thread. So, herewith ...
I'm Scooter, owner/GM/strongman/sometime-manager of the Washington Diplomats. 34 years old, born and raised in Washington, DC. I now live in the northern Virginia suburbs, where I root tirelessly for My Beloved Nats. Worked as a professional stage manager for about 13 years; now I just work one job (secretary), take some college classes, and raise our 3-month-old baby girl Lily.
The Dips were my first "keeper" team, and they're the only team I've got. I couldn't bear any more fun.

I'm WK. Currently living in New Jersey but that may change. Single, age 37. This is my first dynasty league although I am also playing in a private multi-season league. Also play roto baseball. Other hobbies include comic art collecting, comic books, and board gaming.
My original Intro above.
It's hard to believe that it is now almost two years to the day since I wrote that intro.
Quite a bit has changed since I wrote that. I have moved back to Singapore which is where I am originally from. Singapore is either 12 or 13 hours ahead of eastern time (depending on daylight saving) so I am on the boards and the site at what seems like funny hours of the night for the rest of the league.
Since I wrote my intro I have quit all my private league teams (had three at one time) and taken on a dynasty team that is a major rebuilding project.
I work as an international tax specialist and have been doing that for about 13 years. Single, or as my mom would say "Still Single".
The Cleveland Cyclones were my first dynasty team and are still the first team I check when I log into SD
Best of luck to all and to roaddog; "Welcome to the Mighty GVHL".

Ok....
Rich living on Boston's North Shore...but grew up in Greenwich Village, NYC and a Yankee fan from the sixties. My father was a huge (NY) Giant fan and my most prized possesion is a signed Mel Ott photo hanging in my home office.
College Professor going on 17 years, main teaching/research areas are history/philosophy of sport and teaching PE for special needs children.
Lovely wife (21 years), research director (corporate)
Two boys, 14 (see baseball trip post) and 12.
Love this league and it's crazy and/or quirky (depending on the day) fun bunch of owners. We are the luckiest group in the SIM to have such fun.

I'm Harry. Live in northern NJ just 6 or 7 miles from NYC, retired two years from Verizon, married 36 years ( yeah, the girls a saint) and a Mets fan who is finally having a fun season. The Thunderbirds (new name same team, same owner) was my first multiseason team.
This is a great league with great people and I wish everyone a great season, except when you come to Detroit, of course.

I used to own Cincy in the TGL. I see you managed to snag some of my former stars in the expansion including Danny Bailey, Bill Wilkinson, and Freddie Blanton.

I'm Dave. Philly is my only team here and since I can't figure out how to get the great talent I have a ring I probably won't tease any other players by taking on another team.
I'm 31, married with 2 sons (2yrs and soon to be 5yrs) and a life-long Cubs fan. I live in Indianapolis and I sell real estate and manage a RE/MAX franchise.

I'm Steve, 41, live about an hour north of Pittsburgh, and about an hour south of Cleveland. Therefore, I have spent my life rooting for the Pirates and the Indians. Although the Pirates are woeful now, the stadium is incredible! I am a college instructor, as well, teaching accounting, business and technology courses. No longer married (we'll not mention how many divorces). The Pittsburgh Parrots were my first Dynasty team, and I also am the owner of the Philadelphia Warriors in the Ed Delahanty League, as are several other GVHL owners. As you will see at the bottom of this post, my only success came last season in the EDL as I won the World Series (still trying to figure out how that happened??!!). (My grandfather used to say "Even a blind squirrel finds a nut occasionally") Although that season still remains a mystery, it does provide me hope that somehow I could find that fortune here in the GVHL. And I probably won't stop until I do find it. LOL
Welcome all newcomers...you'll find no better league than the GVHL. (Although the freakin' Cyclones always have to ruin everyone else's fun!

I'm Eric, an attorney in New Orleans , 31 and still single. Been a lifelong Cubs fan, Saints fan, & Tulane fan, but at least I've also got the University of Texas to end my misery every once in a while.
The Little Lebowski Urban Achievers were my first $$ team, and I've also got the Detroit Cobras in the Ed Delhanty League.

Hello again!!!! I don't see any new guys here, yet, but here goes.
I'm Luke, 34 this month. I work as a tile setter in the great Pacific Northwest. Seattle area, mostly, and I live with my wife and animals in North Bend, about 30 miles east of Seattle, nestled in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains. Growing up just a couple hours south, I grew up a Mariner fan. 1995 was the greatest year of my life. Grif, Buhner, Randy, Edgar, Tino, Norm, Luis Sojo, Vince Coleman even. . . I was at the one game playoff v. the Angels and wept as we won our first ever division title and playoff appearance. Oops. Got married in 2003. That was a good year, too, right? But 1995. . .
The Bricklayers are, and always have been, my only dynasty team. We lost 100+ in '54; my first season, but improved steadily since. We came out of the expansion draft with a lot of good youngsters who have been contributing consistently since our beginning.
To the newbie(s), you've found a great league to play. The GVHL is more friendly, competitive, and fun than I ever expected. Have fun.

I'm Dave, my team is the Milwaukee Record Breakers. (Although after last seasons finish, I'm not too proud of that...)
I'm 49, have owned a record store (CD store, to those of you who are young and don't remember records) for the past 23 years, and just started a small record (CD) label, First National Records.
I grew up on Long Island, but have lived in Western Massachusetts for the past 24 years.
I grew up a Mets fan (My father took me to see them at the Polo Grounds - where they played while Shea was being built - their first season, but I don't remember a thing about it), but after moving to MA I was sucked into the "Red Sox Nation" and am now a die-hard Sox fan.

C'mon Dave. I've been up here (with small Australian and NYC interludes) since 1979 and I still worship Stottlemyre, Murcer and Horace Clarke. My wife is from the Island and she has a Tom Seaver card on her desk. Her work desk.

I'm Dave (yep, another one), the new guy. The proud new owner/operator of the Kansas City franchise. Many names have recently been changed to protect the innocent (and some not so). No more Atomic Tom or Nuclear Ned. This team has got to get better. Surely, surely, I can't make it any worse! Have one year of Sim Dynasty experience under my belt, so I am almost a rookie. Just finished my first season with the Detroit team in the Wally Berger League. I love this game, and can't get enough. I see some of you have multiple teams, and I might add more later. This looks like a fun, active league, and I am glad to be a part of it.
45 yo, single, and a professional biologist by trade. Specifically a wetlands ecologist. I mostly do environmental work for road projects for the State of Illinois. I travel all over the Land of Abe, and am on the road much of the time during the warmer months (hence the name Roaddog). If I don't respond right away to your trade offer, please be patient. I am probably standing in a wetland somewhere, and will try to get back to you ASAP. Grew up in Cardinal Country (southern Illinois), but am a Cubs fan. Went to school at Southern Illinois University, and now work on the campus of the University of Illinois in Champaign/Urbana. Love living in college towns.
Good luck to all on the new season, and let the fun begin!

Hey Rich -
The Sox are like crack (I assume - I've never actually done crack...), you get a little taste and you're addicted.
I still have most of my Mets souvenirs from when I was a kid. Autographs from Seaver, Koosman, Swoboda, Dan Napolean(!!), Boswell and a signed ball from Larry Bearnarth (who was a neighbor). I can't deny my past.
You have to admit though, there is nothing like Fenway Park.
Plus, growing up as a Mets fan it was easy to align myself with another team whose fans hate the Yankees.
Good luck this season!

These are a lot of fun to read through!!
Rod's post is classic!!! "I'm Rod, and I watch the food network." Just kidding, Rod. I got a kick out of the overall brevity of your greeting. Back in my college days in Pullman, WA (GO COUGS,) my most proudest professor comment ever was "Concise."
That was a few years ago, and now I use quite a few words to say very little pretty much of the time!!
I hope you enjoy yourself, Merlin.

I hate doing these but whatever--
Im 32, i live in Sarasota, financial manager for a vertically integrated real estate development firm. Spyboy is my idol, because he is a Tulane fan. Happy that they beat Tulsa in conference tourney, but i guess we didnt have a chance against Eite 8 Memphis. I miss the posse and the Metro Conference. Oh, Tulane alum, 1999. 4th generation Floridian. Bucs fan, Lightning fan, UM fan. My dad never took me to any sporting events. Didnt "grow up" a fan because i went to any games. I became a Red Sox fan on my own when i was in 5th grade or so, due to Wade Boggs being from Tampa, and of course, my favorite player as a kid, Jody Reed from Brandon HS. Stayed a Red Sox fan. Last year, decided it was time to be a Rays fan. I am in a transition. Either way i am a full blooded, fully commited, YANKEE HATER. This feeling transcends baseball (See above: Sarasota). Please go back to NY if it is SO GREAT.... I am rambling, deal with it. Odds are you arent still reading. GVHL is my 2nd team in simdynasty. We have always sucked, so i have no real excitement about my team, i stay in the league because you guys are quirky, and make me laugh. I love my Boston Braves in the BHL, which is my first team. Also have 3 private teams, and 1 more dynasty team. It is still too slow. I have a college basketball fantasy team at what if sports. Division III. www.whatifsports.com. They have college football too, but that is too many players to recruit with their system. I guess im going to stop typing now.

Hey Luke,
I think there is another link where I get a little more in depth, but I am a simple man. Here is an update though of what has been going on in Queens. I work in Brooklyn as a partner in a small firm selling wood flooring. We are working the green angle as the Northeast has yet to catch up to the West coast on building environmentally friendly. I'm still single, but that should be changing soon. I'll keep you guys posted. We completed a year in business and have learned that the construction business is in a league by itself as we have been abused by developers, general contractors, installers, etc... Needless to say, I have little time for my other hobbies (cooking and poker) these days because every day in the office seems to be about surviving and collecting outstanding invoices.

Hello to all! My name is Todd and I just took over the Cinci team. I am real new at all of this and this is one of four leagues that I am in ( can you say addicted) Just have not really got the hang of it yet although I will figure it all out in time. One of the other league owners has given me lots of info from the Q&A boards to go by so hopefully it will all help. I am 40 and now reside in Northern Virginia about 40 mins from DC. I recently moved from Washington state to here, before that Cali, Hawaii, Chicago, Orlando, New Mexico, and a few other places. Spokane Washington is where I grew up so that is the state of origin for me. I have been a single parent for the last 13 years raising my son (18) and daughter (17) and touting them everywhere I go. since they are now in high school I thought it best to settle down for the last couple of years. I am an avid Red Sox fan and have been ever since I knew what baseball was. I followed Yastrzemski while I was in Babe Ruth and high school ball. This is just my second season and am hoping to learn from all of you veterans. Good luck to all!

Good to have you, Todd. Glad you're getting some help; we other folks are also willing to help out if you want it. Me, I think the hardest thing about this game is looking at a young player and knowing what he can turn out to be.
I'm in Alexandria, just down the GW Parkway from DC. Let me know if you want to take in a Nats game together, or if I should contact you when I happen to have a spare ticket from time to time. Depending on where you are in VA, you might be close to the P-Nats: http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/index.jsp?sid=t436 They've got a nice little stadium; I dunno if they're gonna do "dollar nights" this season.
Anyway, have fun, and I look forward to meeting you in the World Series.

Hey Scooter! How and the heck do you get the bold print?
I live in Front Royal and work in Manassas. Front Royal is about 60mins from DC I guess. It would be cool to see a Nats game, I still have to make it to Boston one of these days. Last game I went to was a Mariners game in the Kingdome when it was still there. Randy Johnson was pitching and there was an earthquake that day that emptied the kingdome. Was an eventful day!
I can use all the help I can get believe me but I am fastly improving although I did get scammed on a trade in one of the other leagues but it was my fault also because I believed I had a team to go all the way but false hopes and empty promises get you nowhere! Live and Learn!
If luck would have it this team has promises.......
Good luck!
