WJL Minor League Prospects Report, pt. 2

June 19, 2006 at 04:12PM View BBCode

Here is the 2nd report on top WJL prospects as of the 1971 season:

Rank Previous Name Rating Pos Age Team Drafted Year
1 8 Chad Pinnance B SP 19 Wash Rd 1 1969 - Continuing to progress like this will make him the 2nd coming of Damon Rutherford, a scary thought for the AL

2 7 Guillermo Romero B SP 18 Cinn Rd 1 1970 - Another young arm produced by the Cincy system, but he could be the best one yet. Will take over for Seibert next season

3 3 Rube Price B 2 B 19 NYN Rd 2 1969 - Good hitter against RHP already, but is blocked by Lanier and Reulbach at 2B; could transition to 1B if needed

4 17 Kale Green B 1 B 19 Wash Rd 1 1969 - A contact hitter with speed at 19, could develop power later on in his career. Range could use a little work, but not much.

5 10 Jack Handy B 2 B 19 Pitt Rd 1 1970 - Showing good power already, but could use some work on contact and defense.

6 4 Junior Murray B- 2 B 20 Cinn Rd 1 1970 - Slowly but surely progressing with the bat, but his defense is slow to follow.

7 New Bob Russell C+ SS 17 Cleve Rd 1 1971 A solid hitter against southpaws, but the defense and RHP hitting need work. He has plenty of time at the tender age of 17.

8 New Alf Steinbrenner C+ SS 17 Wash Rd 1 1971 - Good contact hitter with great range; has time to develop power, speed and a gun from SS.

9 New Dave Davis B- SP 19 St L Rd 1 1971 - The #2 overall pick in the '71 draft could be the anchor of St. Louis staff for years if he can develop his control just a little bit.

10 9 Dwight Pitts B- C 19 CHA Rd 2 1970 - At this rate of progression, he will replace the talented Jim Mathewson in a few years and produce similar numbers.

11 New Stretch McGee B- RP 19 Pitt Rd 1 1970 - 19 year old rubber-armed hurler could be the future closer of the Pittsburgh franchise in 2-3 years with a better velocity and command

12 12 Ron Marnie B LF 19 Mil Rd 1 1969 - The only thing holding this guy back from being a superstar is his range, but everything else has stud written all over it.

13 13 Icehouse Wilson B- RF 18 Bos Rd 1 1970 - Has made tremendous strides this minor league season and should be a 5 tool player in 2-3 years

14 14 Charlie Sockalexis B RF 21 CHA Rd 1 1969 - As long as the trend continues, he could take one of the 5 OF spots in the majors as early as next season; another solid hitter coming from the Chicago system

15 6 Joe Heat (the pitcher formerly known as Pablo Todd ) B- SP 20 Bro Rd 1 1970 - Hasn't progressed too much this season, but has 3rd starter potential; another good young arm in the Smuggler system

16 New Pat Garman B RP 21 Bos Rd 1 1971 - Control needs work, but he can certainly throw smoke. Has time to improve at 20 years of age.

17 New Bill Sanchez B- RP 21 NYA Rd 1 1971 - With just a little more control, he could serve as Batten's potential replacement at CL

18 New Lew Bay B- CF 20 Phi Rd 2 1969 - With work on his contact and defense, he should be a solid player for the Athletics in a few years

19 New Garrett Spahn B- SP 19 Balt Rd 3 1969 - (Recently called up to Majors) If he can gain some command, he will be in the O's plans for years to come. Only 3rd Round pick on this list

20 New Tim Dondero C+ RP 20 CHA Rd 2 1971 - Not a hard thrower at this point, but 2-3 years of time in the minors could make him a potential setup man for Chicago.

Honorable Mention:
Alex Bedford B- LF 21 Bro Rd 2 1967 - A slap hitter with some speed, could get lost in the OF logjam in Brooklyn

Chad Pinnace - now retired, 73 year old, check his stats. Not a bad prospect, or player.

Wow, i saw this and decided to check it out. I don't even remember these players anymore. What was this, 65 years old? There is no one not on social security that remember these guys, lol.

Although i guess in 2036, we have technologies that allow us to live regularly to at least 100, right?

:spin::D:lol::):P:cool:
