Tyson is working on the as yet vague problems on the message boards - such as all of a sudden people's user status being incorrect (such as banned).I will let you know as soon as I have more information.

Also, with the problem, Tyson is backing up the boards and it is unclear what measures will need to be taken. So, I am going to suggest you might want to back-up anything you posted very recently and hold off on your important posts for a few hours, if possible.

Yeah, there are a few dozen frequent/recent posters who have this problem. We are working on getting that fixed ASAP - it certainly wasn't anything you did.

We think we have everyone correct. If you notice anyone who shows the wrong status - moderator, member, and/or banned - please let us know here as soon as you catch it.

I've fixed the problem that may have been the underlying cause for this, sorry again about the problems today.If you see any other message board problems, please let us know.

The word is that someone hacked into the site and changed things around. If this is true I would like to know. If someone did hack in were our paypal accounts or creditcard numbers accesible to this person?

The message board software and server are completely separate from the main site (including anything involving your password and financial information). The message board software is not created by Tyson/SimD but is (in my understanding) somewhat common on the internet. Thus, this was simply a hacker using a - now closed - security hole in the message board software to gain admin access. Currently, this only gave them power to alter post #, user status, or alter past posts, forums and threads. They only altered the user statuses to banned; they would not have access to your account or U2U on the message boards and certainly would not have access to anything on the main site.
Tyson has spent some time closing these holes and reviewed other message board security issues.

All message board passwords are encrypted. The worse he could have done is change someone's message board password to something new.

Also - we're not dumb enough to store things like credit card numbers or paypal passwords on our server. We let paypal handle all that.All message board passwords are encrypted. The worse he could have done is change someone's message board password to something new.
